BLI's new Quantam Engineer- WOW!

If the BLI's heat up in DC, it's news to me. I've got five of the steamers, had them for quite a while, and I run them often. If anything, their response within the power-pack quadrant improves with time. But as to heating up--not from this customer.

Let's not confuse power and voltage here. The QSI sound system has a fairly high floor start voltage, and a bit of in-rush, drawing some amperage when it first lights up, but it does not consume much power, much less multiple ampS. The loco itself is not a big power hog either. And the reson the loco starting voltage is set high is so you have some room between sound start up and when the loco starts to move so you can hear the at rest sounds, and reverse without shutting the sound system down.
I still want to hear why they supposedly heat up in DC, especially since the motor never sees anything but DC, be it a DCC operating system or a DC one.

The QSI sound system takes a fair amount of power to operate it, the power drain on one BLI loco is about the same as two standard loco's, give or take a few amps. Still, i like this new product it just goes to show standard DC still has some unexplored potential[:p] i hope, DC operator and proud of it[:D]

I am used to it when I am on DC, but soon will be totally DCC and it will no longer matter.

It is not a power pack, but works with it. The one shown is mounted on a not too well disguised Tech II. Atlas has announced the same thing. I does look very interesting all right.
Stuckarmchairing - why do you say BLI's heat up in DC? Are you talking the motor or the controls?

BLI just announced a new product called the Quantam Engineer. It 's a power pack that lets you control all the functions of your BLI or QSI sound equipped locomotives! If I was sticking with DC, I'd definently get one!
