Once and for all a conclusion for the Bachmann Spectrum 44 Tonner
Posted by gpharo on Friday, March 4, 2005 12:37 PM
I have been browsing this forum for about the last two years and I have noticed a handful of posts in regards to the Bachmann Spectrum 44 Tonner. However, these posts have confused me more than helped me because the 44 Tonner seems to have received mixed reviews (some good and some bad). The main issues seem to be:

1) Two motors vs. one motor (the one motor being better)
2) DCC installation
3) Low clearance causing derailments

So my questions are:

1) Do you recommend buying this loco? Would you buy it again?

2) Has the low clearance caused you headaches? Ex) switches or inclines?

The reason I ask this question is b/c at my LHS, they ran the loco on their oval which has an atlas rerailer and due to its low clearance the loco could not make it over the rerailer.

Thanks

I have one of the older twin motor ones - DCC hard wired, seems to run just fine....
