Assuming you have your benchwork completed, or if you are using a table, the tracks would come 1st. Then wiring, then scenary. Kalmbach has some excellent books on MRR.

benchwork, track, wiring, scenery, buildings & trees, then small details. My club layout has tried to do all of those at once on different sections of the layout. Therefore we have 1/8 of the layout completed, but only 1\8 of the track laid... stick with the order...

I advise do the crap whenever needed, I mean we get excited working on the layout but......i hate to work on the same thing day after day. I do bits of scenery here, track work there, buildigs and wiring over there.

I agree with *** and Joe. One other thing, after laying track you'll want to operate on it for a while to be sure that you don't have any problem spots before ballasting or adding scenery. It's a lot easier to correct problem spots when it's just benchwork and track.

Agree completly with egmurphy. Get the rough topography and grades in so that your track can be laid in a given sector. Then...MOST important... actually lay the track for that area and run your locos and rolling stock on it to ensure they are all going to work. Once you are sure of it all, then proceed to do the senics, fine adjustments, etc.

By doing a section of the layout at a time, you can climb up on it and work at hard-to-reach spots without breaking other stuff you've already placed.
