Anybody out there??
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 7:26 AM
I wonder if I'm doing something wrong on this forum. I have posted about 6 messages with zero responses. Am I doing something wrong where people can't answer me, or do people just don't respond to the new guy? Please let me know!!

The few of your posts that I looked at seemed to be supplying info or saying what you are doing. If you aren't posing specific questions, people probably just read and don't reply because there may be nothing really to add. If you are looking for responses, pose something that someone might be able to reply to.

Take a look at the topic starters. "What's this" "I was thinking" are not very specific.

I think people want to see a question "What is the secret of smooth turn outs."

That has been brought up a number of times, but people still talk in code that the rest don't understand.

Some people also are just better at it than some of us.

Hey, I am here too. I started a post with the topic "Start Again?" I got quite a few replies and since then I have been using the advice that fellow forum members gave me. A lot of the time you can search the forums for answers to your questions. A lot of new post are already old post and I think a lot of people just pass them over. Keep at it though and remember this is the world's greatest hobby.

Yeah, I would feel bummed if I had joined a conversation, or started a new one, and 'nobody came'!

Still, I think it just might be as others have stated; limited knowledge, limited interest, limited appeal, and so on...

Some topics have currency; that is, they are 'hot' because they deal with a new problem, device, system, plan, technique, or product.

Don't despair, Friend. We know you are there, and we know that you know we are here.

Let's just enjoy our company.

We all go or have went thru this, greb. I have posted what I thought would be real thought provoking items, only to see them disappear faster than my paycheck does.
I agree that a good tease (title) helps get responses, but the topic needs to be one that others have opinions on.
Also, look at the number of people that read the post, sometimes that will let you get a feel for how well it has been received.
There's a good group of folk here, so don't get too discouraged.

Timing is important on this Forum. If you post at the wrong time or day you may get get overlooked. sometimes you have to "ping" your post and bring it to the top of the pile. You'll find most will only read the first or second page and don't come here on a day to day basis. It's not a personal thing. It's timing. I've been away for 28 days so I can't rally can't apologize for overlooking you, Sorry!

If you want to know the secret of getting replies try bad spelling, you'll get all the Xspurts going and replying. It can be fun!

Regards
Fergie
