I don't get what you're trying to accomplish with the dual gauge. Also, I can barely read your post due to some wierd thing with the font.

I think the idea is that a second set of rails would provide current to power a winch, which could then be operated separately with a power pack. It's not really a practical idea, but it does suggest a Wouldn't It Be Cool kind of idea--that of a DCC-controlled derrick car! A set of small motors and gearings in a derrick car provides the power, and a DCC module, powered via pickups on the car's wheels, provides the control. Punch in the derrick's address on your DCC controller, and you can operate the winch!

A neat idea, anyhow...

Marklin makes flextrack that also is usable as 2 rail DC, you could use the studs hidden in the ties as an extra feed for the winch. using a marklin feeding slider underneath the crane

i built a traveling crane many years ago and i split a piece of ho flextrack and layed it outside of another piece of ho flex. i did not power the crane but it did ride on the rails so it could move over flat cars or gondolas for loading or unloading. motorizing it might be somewhat difficult though. i have the walthers powered rail crane from when i was in ho and you have gotten me thinking about building an overhead platform for the crane and using the mechanism to power it for my clubs layout.

I understand what ya mean now, Thank you Jet Rock. SO the n scale tracks powers the winch and the HO scale is the regular to let the crane move...gotcha
