I got one of those gadgets, too. Along with the wire-stripper they were offering free with it. I haven't tried the soldering gun yet; but the wire-strippers worked quite well when I was installing the halogen track lights in the train room and my office (I liked the lights so much, I forked out more money to get a set for the office). I'd be interested to know if this so-called "cold heat" system works as well as it seems to in the TV ads. [?] It would certainly beat burnt fingers and fire risks.

On the Yahoo Traintools group, they've been given a big thumbs down- They will heat up and do really small stuff (wire to wire) but won't do anything like wire to rail, parts on brass, etc.. another gimmick.
