Oh, they're around, but mostly in NS or CSX YN2 paint. Good looking units, but I'd prefer Conrail.

Yeah, only 30 SD80MACs, all origonaly Conrail. Well, Conrail started out with 28 of them, numbers 4100-4127, but then they aquirred the 2 EMD demos, bringing the grand total to 30 80MACs. When Conrail was split, some went to CSX and some went to NS. They're oddities on NS because they're the only AC powered locos on NS.

I don't think Kato owns the rights to the SD80MAC. The most likely reason no one else makes them, is because there are only 30-some-odd of them even in existence. In todays railroading world, where it is not uncommon for a road to have 1,000 or even more of the SAME kind of locomotive, 30 SD80MACs are less than a drop in the bucket! Which is a shame, because I also love the 80 & 90MACs... Just my two cents worth. I could be wrong[;)]

Does Kato own the rights to the SD80MAC? I'm surprised Genesis doesn't make one...

It's to bad someone doesn't. I'm a huge fan of the 5,000 HP 80MACs, but there are so few Katos out there its' hard to find one in Conrail.

Dos anyone other than Kato make SD80MAC's, and more specifically in Conrail colors?
