Lionel Train Set

A buddy of mine at work says he has a Lionel train set approximately 20 years old that he got from his grandparents. He describes the locomotive as diesel,
four-five passenger cars, track, accessories...and he says all the cars are silver in color... the train lights up...

Any ideas of what this set might be and how much it's worth? I'm told he has the original box as well.
