Enet service type

I hear many MRR's complaining about their enet speed, so I thought it would be interesting to see what the stats are, and what the locations are around the world.

For the period of 1986 to 1998, my enet service was dial-up via the local telephone lines. Even though I had a 56K modem, I could NEVER get better than 28.8kb. When DSL was offered by Verizon in our area ( Central Massachusetts ), the lines were too noisy, even though I lived only 1.8 miles from the local office, so they would not give me DSL. But then, Charter Cable, our cable TV service provider arrived on the scene in 1998 and now we have 3Mb service..YES !!!!!!!

Cable seems to be the only way to go around here, my area does have DSL but they haven't upgraded the speed at all, and the prices are very close to cable. Comcast cable has been uping the speed, recently to 4Mb service and thru testing I seem to be getting closer to 5. I have been using this for five years and they have had good customer service, I won't be switching anytime soon.

I live in rural VA, and all I can get is 56K, its not to bad. But I'd prefer high speed internet.

My mom has comcast in PA, and its excellent.

Comcast is also in the greater Boston area, but Charter Cable serves the area further west in the state, and Adelphia serves the three northern New England states.

Bob: yes, enet is just another name for the internet, it stands for Electronic NETwork.

I got Comcast cable line. We did the math, and figured Earthlink dial-up plus the extra phone line cost more than the much faster Comcast cable. So we scrapped the other phone line & dial up.

I have a cable modem and a dial up for back-up.

Your poll doesn't include all options. I often use a satellite connection when staying with friends in Vermont. I'll be setting up the same system when I move out to my summer cabin this summer where there are no phone or cable lines.

"Enet" used as "internet" is new to me, too, Bob.

I've been on Road Runner High Speed Cable Service for about 3 years now. Takes less than a second (usually) to load the home page from the time I start the browser. The computer now has to wait for me rather than the other way around.. LOL

I was thinking of listing Satellite also Wayne, but I didn't think it would have many users. I certainly could be wrong on this, as you have pointed out, so I will add these into the final figures and post the results later after sufficient time for all interested MRR's to reply.

Well for me and the wife had aol but my rear hurt from being dropped due to noise on the phone line went with roadrunner and haven't looked back Beep Beep

I have Alltel's DSL service (I have alltel residential phone as well), and it rocks. I had their dial-up service for about five years, since it was the only choice out here in the sticks. Not even a local number for AOheLL. When they inaugurated the DSL service, I was one of the first to hop on board. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. I have Di***V, but if I had cable I might try the Armstrong Cable Localconnect, which is supposed to be faster AND cheaper.

I don't think I could ever go back to <shudder> dial-up.
