Our friends at ebay have one of these for sale, can it be that this was a "real" locomotive? how did the designers keep a straight face when "designing" this poor thing. Now, I would really have to think if some one was to pay ME $700.00. would I put this on my layout, probably not. O.K. O.K. now for you who might own one of these ultimate art-deco units, treat them well, they deserve a lot of love, the poor little things. just a comment, too much time on my hands maybe?

If the shroud looks like an upside-down bath tub , there really were some like that.

The Central used them on the Mercury.

Those pacifics have been the subject of more than a few comments over the years.

The Commodore Vanderbilt, a hudson, also had a shovelnose shroud, at one point. At a later point in its service life, the Central gave it a Dreyfuss-type shroud, making it one of the two US locomotives to receive two different shrouds over its service life. This is not to be confused with some of the Dreyfuss hudsons that lost their shrouds to the second world war effort, and got them back after the war.
