I have been trying to locate someone who paints brass engines, but to no avail. Everyone seems to be booked up. Are there any members who know of a good painter they can reccomend?i

Try this web sight. It was in Great Model Rairoads 2004.

He had an N scale in the magazine and made mention of painting to pay for it.

There is a large number of people who do this professionally. Try a Google search for Model Railroad Custom Painting if you haven't already. I've never used this service so can't recommend one based on my own experience.

Here's a link to someone whose work I know through another model forum. Blake does excellent work as you will see. http://www.blakedtatar.com/

The few people I've seen who paint brass are usually very busy. The better ones are in high demand, and they take a long time to do their work properly. I saw one fellow's efforts, on a CPR steam engine in their fancy black - gray - and maroon scheme, it looked great. But the painter was not satisfied and was going to strip off the paint and do it over again. So you can see why it can take a long time. This guy (who also operated a hobby shop out of his home) had modelers waiting two years or more to get their engines painted. It was a part time thing for him.

Good luck getting yours painted in a hurry!

That's what forced me to learn how to do my own painting. But once I took the plunge, I discovered how satisfying it is and I've never looked back![^]

Aggro,

Don't you do some custom painting or just weathering?

If I lived in a place which allowed other railroaders to come over, sure I'd be glad to custom weather for people I meet face-to-face. But live with my parents. And mother won't allow me to let anyone know where we live. So, no. I can't do custom anything. Would like to, but can't.

Aggro,

Rent a mail box (PO Box) from the UPS store and meet clients at a local Starbucks. A lot of small business owners who work out of their homes conduct business this way. Find a way to make it happen; the obstacles are just that, obstacles to work around.

Good luck!

Kalmbach has/had a video for sale on airbrushing with acrylic paint. Just re-watched it the other evening and one lengthy segment has Andy Sperandeo taking you through disassembly and painting of a brass steamer step by step. Very informative, IMO.[tup]
