Video volume 3 sneak peak

Volume 3 of the Siskiyou Line video series will cover Electrical and Control, including lots of DCC how-to stuff like installing headlights, programming double-ended diesel lashups, wiring for short protection -- stuff like that.

One thing with all the videos in the series is they show newly scenicked sections of the layout as opener and closer beauty shots.

Volume 3 should be out by late April.

Sure, I have been trying to not think about the next volume coming out. Kind of like Christmas, the less you think about it the sooner it gets here. Then you have to give us a preview. LOL Looking forward to the next volume. Hope it get's here soon!

How can I get my hands on Volume 1 and 2? I would like to see them. Are they HO layouts of the same guys layout or different layouts?

The entire series goes from "Dream to Reality" by example, showing you, in depth, how I took my ideas for my large HO model railroad and brought them to life. The series is in 5 parts, with parts 1 and 2 out, 3 in production, while vols 4 and 5 due out later in the year.

The series lays out like this:

Vol 1: Modeling a prototype
Vol 2: Design and construction
Vol 3: Electrical and control
Vol 4: Scenery and bridges
Vol 5: Operating like the prototype

Each volume shows what worked, what was a bad idea, and how it was corrected when things went wrong. There are how-to demos and many by example hints and tips.

But don't take my word for it (since I'm the one who's in the videos). Maybe someone else on here who has seen volumes 1 and 2 can comment? Good, bad, or indifferent?

I've ordered the entire set. So far Volumes 1 and 2 have been excellent! I would recommend them to anyone that is interested in building a layout. Can't tell you how many times I have watched them. (My wife probably could LOL) The timing has corresonded real well with my building a new layout, so I have been very happy with the series.

Yep, am discussing SoundTrax sound decoders (diesel) with a demo on how to install one.

And the other item that you don't see discussed much in nitty-gritty detail is putting working headlights in a loco with DCC. I'll be discussing the ins and outs of headlight installation, along with a demo as well in volume 3.

My general rule with this series is to discuss the practical "from Dream to Reality" issues of building your own model railroad "empire". If there's a topic I can cover that is of a high usefulness but it's seldom covered, then I want to get it into the video series somewhere.

The using sound decoders and installing working loco headlights in a DCC loco are two such topics. Other biggies include DCC friendly turnouts and shortproofing your layout.

Thanks again, Joe. I'm dropping my wife a "hint" about my birthday present! Since I usually don't want anything, I can imagine her making a trip to my LHS to order Volume 3.

One more question. I downloaded that stunning picture of your Cotton Belt Geep pulling a heavy freight train. What type of headlights did you install on this unit? Looks gorgeous! Is the light on the top a "Gyra-Light?

I'm assuming you used "Blue-White" L.E.Ds but I'm not sure.

I use 1.5 volt bulbs from Miniatronics. They're 1.5V 15mA, 1.2MM Diameter (0.047” - #55 drill).

And yes, the upper lights of any SP light set are the gyralights.
