Large Quonset Huts

You might want to explore the Walthers O scale catalog to see if there is a "small" quonset hut there you can adapt. Plastruct might make the grooved plastic that you could fasten to a carpet tube or empty bleach or vinegar container (model railroaders have gotten out of the habit of looking at their home's trash cans for usable materials).

I have made the Rix one, it would be way too small, and you could not even combine kits to make it bigger because the radius of the curve is set and the plastic is quite hard.

I'm thinking of the Walthers Grain Bin with it cut in half lengthwise. Still might be too small, though, but it always looked a bit big for HO to me. I'm going to use a couple at my large (5 foot long) city grain terminal along with the standard "concrete" silos. They definitely won't look too big there! [:)]

That enginehouse looks a lot like the M&StL's "new" enginehouse at Peoria.

I'd model it with a largeish mailing tube (5"-7" diameter) and tin foil (Campbell siding for something this large is cost-prohibitive. Use heavy duty tin foil and run a comb through it for the corrugations. UIse rubber cement to apply).

My shortline railroad had a 2-stall quonset hut enginehouse pictured at the link below (the rail doors are at the other end).

My question: What would be the best way to model this structure? My guess is that it is 35-40 wide at the base to accomodate the two tracks. Would PVC pipe with Campell corrugated siding work best to model it? Any other ideas?
