Five years ago I would have said CN but the CP's new look with the golden seal coupled with the fact that I believe CN is starting to loose its Canadian character have pulled me over to the line that spans the world.

Also, if you're ever in Canada try staying at a Canadian Pacific Hotel (especially the ones in Toronto and Montréal,) They are some of the best on earth in my oppinion.

The Algoma Central.Cause it was close to Indiana, had a great passenger ride, and they used the Erie Lackawanna paint scheme on their Diesels.

My vote is for VIA Rail for one simple reason - my wife and I love to travel aboard those great Budd cars on the "Canadian" and "Ocean."

Our second choice would have been for BC Rail's passenger operation between N. Vancouver and Prince George. But, alas, that went belly up a couple of years ago. Love those RDC's!

For freight operations, it really is a tie - CN and CP Rail.

I refer to my model railroad as "Can-AM," which features passenger operations from VIA Rail, BC Rail and Amtrak, with freight support from CN and CP/CP Rail. Canadian railroading, to me, is "where it's at!"

Great question!
Happy Railroading! Siberianmo

Anyone out there ever do an Esquimalt and Naniamo(bar) layout, say around the 50's ?
Now that would really be a sight to see, steam, diesel, passengers, freight, logging(big time) trestles, mountains, scenery, RDC's, you name it, it was there. if so, let's see some photos.

I really prefer the Grand Trunk (Western), but seeing as it was a CN subsidiary and predecessor, I'll vote CN.

ALso like the Algoma Central and BC Railways.

Ahem, a seal is not a rodent, while a beaver is. Up here we call it the Golden Rodent.

That said, I vote for the British Columbia Railroad, with it;s beautiful green-green scheme and wonderful hode-podge of power, mainly Alcos, with a few SD40-2s and GEs thrown in, mingled with lots of leased locomotives from hither and yon.

Cheers

Anyone know the latest on BC Rail's Royal Hudson? I'd love to take a rid on the beast, but it needs some $1 Mil worth of refurbishing, I hear.

I voted for the E&N, although if my memory serves me right, the tracks that were beside our house at the end of Vickery Rd. before they took it for the Island Highway, were CNR? I remember Steam on it in the early '50's! signed: A lost canuck from Vic now living a daysail sou'east in Port Townsend, WA

YAY CP Rail!
It's kind of sad that it is one of those railroads that has to swallow up others to survive, but it's still not as bad as CN. Swallowing the Wisconsin Central! You should be ashamed. How's the WC line doing, by the way?

The CN does have a really sweet paint scheme, but its really hard to find models in it. Does anyone know where I could find one of the loco's in the new scheme? Oh yeah thanks trainboyH16-44[:D]

Since you never said if the railroad had to be in Canada or owned in Canada you might have included Wisconsin Central, Grand Trunk Western, Illnois Central and what ever CN is gobbleing up this week.

Well, I was raised along Illinois Central tracks in Southern Illinois, and since CN has bought IC, I voted for it. I think CP's color scheme is better on their locomotives, though.
