PIkestuff Kits
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, February 20, 2005 1:17 PM
I started assembling my first Pikestuff kit. its the Modern 1 or 2 stall engine house. this kit seems to be pretty easy. (It would be alot easier if i had a sharp #11 blade) What are your guys' thoughts on other pikestuff/Rix kits?

They are nice models of basic modern steel industrial/commericial buildings and great for kitbashing.

I tried to sell my two cents worth, but no one would give me a plug nickel for it.

I don't have a leg to stand on.

Rix has a great product -- telegraph/electric cross arms cast in clear green plastic. This way you paint the wooden crossbeam but the insulators end up as extremely realistic greenish glass in appearance. People have been messing with green metalic paint for years. This is a much better and seemingly obvious solution that no one had ever thought of before Rix.

I made the Qunsott (sp?) hut from them and was very pleased with the results. I also picked up a broken engince house as part of an e-bay purchase and was able to get it fixed up great with parts from the spares bucket. I think they are good value for money and quite versatile kits.

I especially like the Rix board & batten warehouses. While the buildings themselves may not be much to look at, the door & window castings are some of the best on the market, and are well worth the price of the kits. They scream "Midwest Depot" more than any of the windows sold by Grandt Line or Tichy. I just wi***hey's sell them as seperate items!

I absolutely love the Pikestuff kits. I just finnished my first one short of weathering, and I will be buying many more. They are really good for modeling modern buildings.
