Just came from the show (a large train show in western Canada) $7.00 to get in, hundreds of parents with 3 month old babies (what are they thinking?) the rest of the crowd consisted of 75 year old widows, Many gigantic unfinished layouts with the "occaisional" train if you're lucky. sellers booths impossible to see as uninterested people jam up against the table, looking at who knows what, and having no interest in the product. (80 year females listeng to a guy discuss DCC. Many booths that had nothing to do with trains,10 booths selling wooden train whistles, dealers and hobby shops selling old stock at bargain prices saw 3 brass(old) enginesin the entire show, the best thing was talking to a guy building a live steam C.P.R. LARGE locomotive, it was magnificent ! ! and a bunch of booths selling dilapitated oil-stained old-old kits at no bargain, Maybe there were 5 exhibits worth seeing, I wi***he layout guys would spend a little more time on their exhibits and of course they were far too high for children to see them. The show surely needs some improvement.

Hey tartan,
You probably don't have kids. It's the dead of winter, if your a parent of a 3 mo. old kid you have'nt been out of the house in 6 months, and your sleep deprived, and all you want is to be somewhere other than home. Give parents of newborns a break. Bugs the hell out of me that people think that new parents don't belong anywhere but at home with their screaming kids. Wait till the day you have one and then read the comments you just wrote. AAA ARRRGGG!

Hey pbj, My comment on 3 month old children was, what could a 3 month old possibly enjoy about a train show, Not about why they should be there, I took my children everywhere and I mean everywhere, this trainshow was an absolute madhouse, I would have felt nervous with a young child. I also felt sorry for the little children who could not enjoy the layouts as they were too high. I spent some of my time holding up children to see the trains with parents of more than one child -talk about grateful parents ! !

I usually don't get excited about train shows after visiting a couple. I'm not putting those down that do attend them. The few I've attended had no real bargains, but a lot of rip offs as far as I was concerned and as far as new products went there were vary few. My take on train shows is just a big fleamarket for train stuff. One had to beware of what one was buying as some things like Lionel and American flyer was being sold as prewar when in fact must was built in the fifties. Sorry, didn't mean to sound negative here, just being honest. To be honest again, I've never attended any of the really large ones so maybe I'm not getting a true picture of things. Ken
