I've loved trains since I was 5, it's ten years later & I'm going strong. I may be the only
teen in america who loves trains, but I enjoy everything about railroading. As for model
railroading I started when I was 10 & have aquried 16 locomotives (My largest is
a 4-8-8-4) & 3 scale miles of track.

These topics are the best I've seen on this forum(well, pretty darn close) It shows some compassion in this world and some very understanding people, the above people truly understand the principle of "giving" and are not too worried about "in return" which, by the way. WILL return in the future. good on ya !!!

I have a garage railroad, so when the weather is clement, and I'm operating the trains, the door is always raised. Quite a few of the neighborhood kids (and their dads) stop by while I'm pulling a freight up Yuba Pass and watch. They're full of questions, most of which I can answer. I've also got a neighbor across the street who MIGHT qualify as a 'kid' (at my age, most of them are) and is in to RC cars. If I'm in the garage and he's running the street, one of his cars always zooms in, which means he's over for an operating session. I think I've got him hooked, his wife thinks its just a hoot, two grown men and their toys(!). Funny thing, the kids in the neighborhood NEVER ask me how fast the trains will run, this guy always does. I have to watch him when I hand him the controls. Nice kid, but a real speed-freak!

Well, sort of! My 2yr old cousin is already fascinated by trains - whenever she comes round here to visit it's "Matt, Trains!". I had a Hornby starter set hanging around from an abandoned project (nothing special, their basic 0-4-0 steamer and three wagons) which I've now passed down for use under supervision - she's got the basic idea of driving them properly already. We're now looking at hauling her dad's old Triang OO scale collection out of grandma's loft with a view to repairing/servicing the locos for the next generation, have to do it fairly soon though as parts for the old locos are getting harder to find.

I think this is probably one of the best things we can do as modellers, passing it on. As model manufacturers don't take out adverts outside model train magazines there's very little exposure to the hobby, so without our efforts there'll be far fewer newbies starting in the hobby.

Yep, me. I'm a tad bit older then 13, and we haven't met yet, but I live just down the street from ya too!! Seriously, we have a single mom that brings her young son to our club and we are helping him get started and let him run his trains on our club layout. Ken

I am replacing the passenger cars on my train the Silver Champion. Now there are the Older IHC and some newer ones. To be replace with Walthers passenger cars. I have a kid, well he is 13 years old now Who live down the street from me, is just waiting for the IHC car from me as I get the Walthers cars. It is a 8 car train that is model after the Super Chief. I did not go out to model the Chief, it just ended up that way. This kid love trains, does anyone else have a kid like this
