Just got an unbuilt MDC roundhouse engine kit (static) #1550. It's a 3 in 1 steam series from about 500 years ago., it's an 0-8-0 saddle tank and can be made into 3 different models, one is a 0-8-0T logging engine called "Moose Jaws"---
does any one out there know why this was called "Moose Jaws",
what could it possibly mean, any help will be appreciated. The kit makes one,
1.
0-8-0T logging engine.
2.
2-4-4-0t articulated.
3.
I have no idea what the 3rd loco is, as there is no description or photo. Any info on anything about this gem????

I found a couple references to Roundhouse locomotives labeled for "Moose Jaws Lumber Co.", which I suppose would be either a real or freelanced logging railroad. I found a brief reference to a "Moose Jaws Lumber" HO/HOn3 layout referencing an old magazine article, and a couple of Roundhouse engines lettered for it, but that's about all...MDC/Roundhouse also lettered engines and cars for freelance lines like the Gorre & Daphetid and Devils Gulch & Helengon, so there may not have been a real "Moose Jaws Lumber Co." (there is a lot of lumber business in Moose Jaw, but the spelling isn't the same.)
Is there an instruction sheet with the locomotive?

I checked the last walthers catalog in which MDC was listed. This 3 in One set was listed. It also states that it makes an 0-6-0 T

I have this kit, made the On3 2-4-4-0T steamer many years ago. The instructions re the 3 versions are not too clear as mentioned. They do show and mention the 0-8-0 as a logging or plantation engine, and there are two ways to do the cab on the model, one with a fabricated peaked roof.
Perhaps these are the two versions along with the narrow gauge one they are referring to. The instructions do go all over the place, but when I first got started back into the hobby many years ago, they were a great help to me as they told me exactly what to use and what to do in the kitbashing of their "3 in 1" kits. I learned a lot from them at the time and had some fun doing it to!

Thanks for the superb information, this solves a lot of mystery. I'm looking forward to building it into a 2-4-4-0T , JETROCK : Moose Jaw is a city in Saskatchewan of 35,000 with massive C.P.R railyards, it's the heavy haul division, plus Canada's Air Force pilot training facility (it's also Canada's busiest airport) I would think logging is not one of the major industries as it's located right in the middle of the prairies, so someone must have made the name up for a layout, (and yes, there are 4 instruction sheets included) again grateful all the info, thanks.----oops, Bob , you're right, the other version is the peaked roof 0-8-0 .

really? All I know is that I did a search for "Moose Jaw" and logging and got a medicine hat full o' hits...
