Greenberg shows

Has anyone been to the Greenberg train shows before? Specifically the one in Fort Washington, PA? They're having one at the Expo center this weekend and I'm debating on going. It's like an hour and a half to get there from my house and wanted to know if it was worth it.
I'm planning on going to the East Coast Hobby show there when it comes in April, but haven't ever heard how the Greenberg show is there.

I've been to the Greenberg show in Chantilly, VA (Dulles Convention Center), and they're OK. At least around here, they tend to cater more to the 'toy train' (O gauge/Lionel) market than the HO/N market, but I've usually found some pretty good deals there, especially on structures and track. Rolling stock is hit or miss; I've seen some pieces that were more expensive than my LHS, and WAY more than what they're sold for online.

i've been to the Greenburg Shows in Fort Washington ( and plan to be there on Saturday) and it's worth it, atleast IMHO. Majority of the vendors are trains, and atleast the ones that i've dealt with were pretty good, and i always manage to find something there and end up spending 100-200... it takes me about an hour to go through the whole thing and one note... it can get very crowded

G-berg shows tend to be more tinplate than HO or N, at least in the train department. Some G-berg shows are better for those in HO or N than others.
The Fort Washington, Pennsylvania show tends to be better than most G-bergs, at least for HO or N.

There are the dollies and toys and cards, but those do not bother me. The GF likes G-bergs for that. For a time, toward the end , its old Management tried to ban the toys. Many people complained, even the train guys. Why? Because in many households guess who controls the purse strings? When husband goes to show alone, he finds something that he wants, calls home to let them know that he is spending the money. The reply that he receives is: 'Forget it , Honey, we can't afford it. Come home, now, I want to go to the shoe store, the dress shop and Aunt Hettie's'. It is a wonder that there were not more drastic actions taken out in front of some of those G-bergs The ban did not last long. If they offer the toys, dollies and cards, Daddy, Wifey and Kiddie can all go and get something. The added bonus is that Daddy (and Kiddie, if he is a boy) is given at least a one weekend respite from the shoe store, the dress shop and Aunt Hettie's.

While the GF does not control the purse strings here, she does like the shoe store and the dress shop. She does not have an Aunt Hettie, or her equivalent, but she does like a place that was invented solely to torture the American Male: the accessories boutique. I would rather drive three hours to spend five hours at a G-berg than drive ten minutes to spend one hour in a shoe store.

I would say go. The layouts are often very good.

It may be crowded and parking may be difficult. Is this the weekend of the Philadlephia Boat Show? If it is, parking will be difficult; bring your walking shoes.

Yep....I agree the with the above posts on the Ft Washington PA show....I plan to go on Sat. too. They've had a good variety in past years. There's been alot stuff on the different roads found regionally here in the NE.

Cool, sounds like I'll be going. Anyone know of a good restaurant to go to for dinner? Like one of those secret hole places (aka one that's good but won't be that crowded). I need some place for V-day (her gift is going with me, my gift is to not stay too long and make it worth her time, whatever that means).

This weekend isn't the boat show. That's the 17-20th.

turned out half-decent as usual for me... picked up an IHC Conrail GG1 and an Athearn CSX C44-9 for $95 total...

whoops forgot to mention that both were HO. d'oh

I have found the Greenbeerg shows offering a decent variety modelrailroding equipment in all scales. I also attended the East Coast Hobby Show and noticed that it featured all hobbies, including RC equipment, including Ships and Planes. Consequently, you are not likely to see the selection of model railroading offferings you would see at GreenBerg. The last Green berg show I attended was when they were still in Pennsauken, NJ.

I went (and the wife actually enjoyed it). I put her on searching duty. I ended up finding 4 Athearn blue box kits in the ACL, SAL, and SCL lines. Built 3 of them already. Got all 4 of them for 24 bucks. I couldn't find what I REALLY wanted. The new E6 from Life Like. But most of the vendors said that what they brought to Fort Washington was mainly leftovers from Timonium. Oh well. Guess that means I should go to Timonium next time!!
