Modeling tip from a Newb...Skewers!

I buy 12" bamboo skewers and use them for all sorts of things. They're the trunks of my my N Scale pine trees and used wherever a round timber is needed.

Don't forget,

They're also used for removing numbers off of locomotives without damaging the paint. Use in conjunction with Solvaset.

a good sized grocery store should have them. Check the section where they keep all the kitchen ware. Or ask someone witha name tag.. I wentto buy some for my lay out to use to switch. I got a pack of 100 for like 1.50 or something silly. Now I use for anytnign I can. [:)]

I use 'em to hold sheets of 2" foam together while the glue is drying. That way, they won't shift around. I also use them to hold things in place while soldering, especially in hard to reach areas of trackwork.

Another thing I use is old modellers paint brushes. Once the bristles get all dried and stuck together, I cut that end off and use the remaining stick like a skewer. The nice thing is, because the handle is nicely finished you don't get those annoying little splinters. I talked real nice to a local school art teacher and I now get their castaways as well.

they also make a good uncoupler tool for kaydee's in ho scale.

I haven't seen a topic posted on this yet, and I'm not that an experienced modler yet... butI found I found skewers are an indespensible modeling tool.[8D]

You can use them to apply small amounts of glue (especially CA)
You can paint extremely fine detail with them
You can shape the point in a sharpner
You can hold them like a pencil (better than round toothpicks)
You can use them to puncture your Testors CA glue tube when it clogs
And they are cheap and disposable
