Anyone else going to make 2-6-6-6 Alleghenys/H-8?

From a manufacturer's stand point, I can't see there being two manufacturers making any single steam locomotive unless demand shows it is warranted. I would like to see so many other locomotives brought out that I feel it a waste to have two manufacturers competing for sales of a single steam locomotive type. I never understood how Athearn and Lionel thought they should bring out UP Challengers, when Rivarossi has offered one for decades and brass examples have been offered for even longer!

Rivarossi is undergoing company changes. Once the dust has settled, if Rivarossi comes back from the edge of the abyss, I'm sure they will offer this loco again. The old manufacturer's maxim is; have tooling will build! The more sales from a set of tools, the cheaper the tooling's cost and the more the next run will be profitable! However, I'm from the old school, where we didn't have to change confusers and software every six months so, so Bill Gates could make Mo Money, Mo Money, Mo Money!!

Yep I was already outbid. $325 was my limit. My budget is really hurting right now. :-(

It's out of warranty and for a used model the New Challenger with one year warranty has merit for review.

If anyone is interesed, I have a Riv 2-6-6-6, that I bought as my birthday present to me, at the same time my wife bought me a Proto 2-8-8-2. To keep piece in the family, you know which one I opened. Now I've got a Riv that I'd like to sell. It is still in the factory shrink wrap and has been stored in the closet.

BLI?? If they make this engine... whoo hoo I already am all steamed up and ready to buy it. They wont need to show me any pictures or anything, just give me the bill to sign for it. *DISCLAIMER... dont send me a bill for 10,000 units BLI!! I am not that rich he he.

I guess someone will make this engine but if they do, it better have QSI sound and DCC included. I missed the first round when they came out a few years ago because they were just too expensive. But have been saving pennies for the next run.

I have both the Allegheny & Athearn Challenger. Side by side the locos
look quite similar IMO.
Maybe worth a look see.

Haven't heard anything about it, but keep checking E-bay or some of the larger hobby shop nets--there's GOT to be one around, somewhere. It's just a honey of a locomotive, even if the traction tires have a habit of becoming loose. It would be nice if BLI or P2k decided to come out with one, but until then, keep checking the net. I'd bet you'll find one, eventually. Good luck!

I was hoping to add one to my collection. Unfortunately it looks like I jumped onto the train a little too late (excuse the pun.) as Rivarossi Allegheny's are hard to come by.

Does anyone know if they are going to be made again and by whom?
