I am useless when it comes to wiring etc. Could someone recommend an easy way to wire either lights or turnouts, whichever works. Also it would be really nice if you could explain it easily in terms an ameteur could understand

if you are useing dcc for control they have some good wiring doragrams at www.wiringfordcc.com as for normal dc good luck.

You might want to get a book on elementary wiring for model railroads. Atlas has one, and I assume Kalmbach must publich such a thing as well.
