I'm thinking about getting the AB set in HO from Proto 1000. They look kind of like a cross between an ALCO PA and an F7.

The Proto C-Liner is superb. I have an A and B set in NYC livery which will pull astonishing loads - trains that my Athearn Dash 9s and AC4400s have trouble with!

A C-liner is a first generation cab unit, built by Fairbanks Morse in the early 1950s. It was designed to compete witht he EMD F-units, which it didn't do very well. C-liners look slightly similar to F units, but have a pointier nose. Very few roads owned C-liners, and most of those were out East (PRR, NYC and the Milwaukee were the biggest owners). I'm not sure if the Santa Fe actually owned any C-liners (they did own Erie Builts, which were six axle units with similar carbodies).

I'd stay away from the AHM C-liner, as it doesn't run very well. Life Like recently came out with a C-liner in their Proto 1000 line which is light years head of anything AHM ever produced. Look around on Ebay or at Trainworld, and you should be able to find one of the Life Like engines for less than what Walthers wants for the AHM version.

This is a Fairbanks-Morse C- liner. There have been several articles on these as of late. Also some new models of this engine are out.

I've received a listing of equipment for sale.
Under the "engines" category, there is this listing:

Santa Fe, F.M. C-Line A
AHM is the manufacturer, stock # 7024E

What kind of engine is this? I'm not familar with the designation.
