I see the coaling station in the March 2005 Model Railroader mag. When I search at Walther's I can't find it. Thanks Barent.

According to the article they're going to have an article next month on building it. I am assuming it is either scratchbuilt or kitbashed. It looks like a kitbash of the walthers coal mine.
If you ain't having fun, you're not doing it right and if you are having fun, don't let anyone tell you you're doing it wrong.

In the first article in the series it mentioned that it was a modified New River Mine.

Simon is correct, this is Walthers' New River Mine, structure kit #3017 in their Cornerstone series. You'll find it listed at the top of page 427 in the 2005 Walthers Catalog. Recent issues of MR indicate that it is offered by several mail order hobby suppliers at a significant savings (for example see Standard Hobby Supply's latest ad, which has a very reasonable price).

Get the April issue of MR when it comes available. They will discuss about the coal mine in that issue.

It is a fairly decent kit and formed the basis of my first attempts with an airbrush. There was a thread about the kit some months ago that gave the tip to draw in the window frames with a black sharpie marker. The window frames are molded into the clear plastic window inserts. The frames are raised and with a steady hand you can run the sharpie down the frames withoug getting any on the glass panes. This was so much easier than trying to paint them in. If you mess up and get sharpie on a pane, then I just colored the whole pane as if it was a broken and blocked out window. The over all effect was great.
