Good Morning,

David, can't buy any bacon here labelled 'Canadian style'. What others call Canadian we call peameal bacon. It is very lean. My mother used to just fry it in a cast iron pan, not too hot as it can burn being so lean. Haven't had any for years but all grocery stores here sell it. It is made from a different cut than side bacon, so it isn't the cooking method.

As it is early, more coffee please.

CN  Charlie

Thanks Charlie.   I love cooking and trying different recipes.  Sometimes I put my  own twist to it.

Brunhilda.   A drink of their choice  to anyone in the Diner.  Put it on my tab.

Good afternoon

I'll join this Canadian Bacon fan club as well eh.

Judy talked me into driving over the river to go to the Windmill Cafe in Savage, Minnesota for Eggs Benedict last weekend.  Now it's worth the extra drive to go to a Ma-Pa breakfast restaurant, who gets up at 4:00 in the morning to hand shred fresh potatoes for the hash browns.  You know all the other food is awesome when they start out like that.  Thier holidays sauce is grubbin manDinner

Canadian bacon is the center cut of the pigs back, that is much leaner than pork loin.  Yes, the true stuff is that little round portion that is quite succulent and tender, almost like a filet mignon of ham.  The Windmill must have a reputable supplier, as most vendors dry the stuff out during the smoking process.

Now my mouth is watering nowLaugh  Too bad they close at 3:00, or I'd be having eggs benedict breakfast for dinnerWhistling

Evening

That is one fine looking breakfast Bear, can only hope for one like that from Ju-Ju tomorrow, as she has the whole weekend off and likes to cook breakfast for me.

Is it Spring up there still, or Summer yet?  I've lost Track, but hope your having some decent weather.

That pasta contraption ya came up with sounds quite scrumptious David.  Wishing for a really fast cigar boat to come join yaLaugh

Can't stand it any more!  I'm taking Judy to Carmines Italian for some sort of seafood pasta dishDinner  They do a Primo Job with the food over there.

Have a good evening gentlemanSmile

POST HOG!

Ju-Ju has been wanting a Rachel Ray pots and pan cooking set, and hasn't splurged on herself.  We usually don't exchange Christmas presents together, to give more to everyone else in our family, but she was told if she buys me a Choo-Choo I've been wanting, she will get her pots and pans setLaugh

Some creative planning herePirate

I've been lurking and I'm glad MR has emerged to tell us about their forum plans

I ran across Youtube videos by Al Pugliese.  He did, what I wish I did when I was living in MD, he became a disciple of Howard Zane.   Howard created some fantasy trains.  There are a couple other videos of smaller fantasy MOW cars.  I may try to build something similar to the smaller cars.

Good morning

Last Summer the food at Carmine's was excellent, last night not so good.  Apparently the good cook wasn't there.  Inconsistency isn't a very good thing in the restaurant business, one bad experience is enough for me, as we wont be going back.

Grocery day, on a more positive note, perhaps we'll pick up some fixings for our own Italian dish.

Have a great SaturdaySmile

Good morning, diners.  Just coffee this morning.  We're hitting the road to see a granddaughter for her birthday.  I'll check in to the diner on my $30 Walmart phone, but I'm not able to post easily on that thing.

Have a great weekend, everyone.

By odd coincidence, the GF's friend from Texas sent her some Canadian Bacon for Christmas.  I guess I'll have to poach up some eggs, toast some English muffins and make some Hollandaise sauce for breakfast.  We haven't had that since our last cruise, just before Covid.  On a week-long cruise, I think I had eggs Benedict 5 times.

We haven't felt the need or desire for travel since Covid.

On a brighter note, our cat Snowflake is feeling better.  She had an off day yesterday, and didn’t eat anything until I brought a bowl of food upstairs to her at night.  She's still a bit sluggish, but she got up this morning, laid in the sun for a while and came down for breakfast.  She's only 4, so she's still a young lady, so no old cat problems for her yet.

Good Afternoon,

Mr. B, glad your cat is feeling better.

TF reminded me that my mother used to call Canadian bacon, back bacon which is what it is.

Still mild weather here. We have a couple of inches of snow on the ground. Normally there would be at least a foot of the stuff. I have a photo dated Nov/77 of Nazareth (Afghan Hound) standing on top of a snow drift that is about 6' high. That was in NW Ontario but not that far from me now. He did like to look around, not surprising as he ws a sight hound.

Howdy diners.  Zoe, just a mug of hot cocoa please.

Rollercoaster day.  As some might remember, I have been considering getting a newer truck.  Not a need, but my Colorado has a growing list of annoyances and little things that don't work right.  Nothing major...at the moment, but given the issues I've had and some of the known issues with this model year, it's always in the back of my mind.  I have been looking for what I want for about six months (Not giving up what I have for a compromise.  No need for that right now.).  I've seen two available in about a 300 mile radius that fit the bill in that time.  Missed the first but was okay with it as it wasn't in as good of shape as it should have been for the model year.  Someone was rough with it.  Missed on the second one today that was basically perfect, including the price.  Worst was I missed it by minutes.  I called the place that had it to ensure they still did and the salesman grabbed the keys for it and said he would pull it out back for a couple of hours to hold it until I got there.  He called me back 6 minutes later.  One of the other salesmen had someone there wanting to look at it and they ended up buying it.  I was bummed!  I do believe things like this happen for a reason though and I don't need a newer vehicle right now, so I can wait.

Then, oh joy of days, my NCE system appeared on the doorstep!  I was still waiting for a call from them to tell me how much I owed for the repairs, so I never expected this!  The paperwork inside said they found a bad connector inside the base station, a cold solder joint inside the base station, and a cold solder joint inside the throttle.  It's a wonder it worked for the nine years I've had it!  Hooked it back up and so far so good! Big Smile

Probably going to start some of the holiday baking tonight.  Doing the rest tomorrow.

Have a good night everyone!

Yes, summer time is upon us. Mainly good weather for survey work and aerial photography, at least the sun angles are right for longer, so with routine maintenance and some late parts deliveries from the States is the why I’m “hibernating." (??!!) Have to get a machine flying before Christmas, so am w**king 7-day weeks! So much for semi-retirement!

Good morning

The Bear

Neat bridge.

Nothing better than a dependable plane, which I'm confident you'll have when your finished, and all your time put in will be well worth the effort.  Nothing better than a good sence of accomplishment after some hard workYes

Speaking of which, I'm gonna have to finish those cabinets down the hall today.  My plank floor is being delivered some time tomorrow, ...Yikes!, a good thing my nephew agreed to help me out with that oneBig Smile

Enjoy your Sunday y'allSmile

Good Morning Diners.  Flo, coffee and toast please.

Got down in the basement last night for about an hour to do nothing but run trains.  It was great! Big Smile Had a couple hiccups with some dirty track/wheels, but otherwise everything ran well.  Not bad for what little I've been able to run it in about the last 8 months or so.

My youngest got me a gift certificate for M.B. Klein's yesterday too.  Supposed to be for Christmas, but apparently their ordering system doesn't allow for a printed certificate to be given to a recipient, nor will it delay delivery of the gift certificate email.  Consequently, my wife announced that it will be the last time she buys me one. Sad  I get her point though.  It's supposed to be for Christmas.  I placed my order yesterday and it appears if all goes as they claim, my things will be in by Christmas.  I told my daughter if they come in, I will give them to her to wrap up and put under the tree.  That helped, as she was bummed that I got the email basically immediately.  The email sure looked like something that could have been sent to her to print off though, so I'm not sure what happened.  Maybe next time I need to order from there, I'll buy myself a gift certificate to see what the process looks like.

Well, tis the season for football and star players getting carted off with leg injuries, but, how does a cat tear her ACL?  Like, was she playing for the Jets or something?

Out of an abundance of caution, we took her to the vet and that was the diagnosis.  It will heal by itself in a few weeks.

Good  evening  Diners.   A glass of Irn Bru please, Brunhilda.

Had a dear friend from Texas visiting us today.  Made some cinnamon rolls for her visit (along with other food).   She has just left and is seeing members of her family.

Younger granddaughter is here now.  On other visits she has been asking for pasta to be  made for her dinner.  I was going to make pasta today, but she asked,  "Can she have cottage pie instead?"     A busy day in the kitchen.
