We are in So Cal. It snowed here in ' 48 or '49..... but usually, not. 2007 had a thin layer of white frost on everything where the dew had frozen. The rails on the G gauge were white....
Biggest issue with outdoor railroads over here is 3 months of scorching heat in theSummer, and occasional high winds. The winds will blow even a g gauge train off the track.
I love being outside. I am trying to incorporate more trains running outside. Hope to set up a Christmas display for next year.

I guess it doesn't snow where you live?
Yes, it is feasible. Less practical without a permanent track in place. I may have a track in place for H0/ On30 by next year. Also planning a 3 rail 0 gauge loop in the garden. Hopefully, a Holiday display for next year.
I was really hoping to have it ready for this year!
crossthedog Ha! That's amazing. Seems like it would be endless shimming, but if it goes, then well done. Nice job. What do the neighborhood cats think of it?

Great work. Keep it up. I can't wait to see how things advance.
So far, so good.

Returning to model railroading after 40 years and taking unconscionable liberties with the SP&S, Northern Pacific and Great Northern roads in the '40s and '50s.
I'm gearing up for a Christmas display. I have more than 2 large cardboard boxes of entry level/ low end H0 trains, and I'm trying to put everything into use. Checking feasibility for an outdoor Christmas display. I'll have to ake it down every evening, but so far, so good! I'll put up some pictures of the display later.
