I wish I were headed your way for winter in FLA, I would load up the back of the Explorer with 4", and 2" foam insulation for all you guys in GA. It is a climate issue. Up north, I live in central Mass, the daily average temp in January is in the 20's for a high and gets down below 0 many times, so the local Lowe's of Home Depot carries tons of this stuff.
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! The Home Depot at Barrett Parkway and Dallas Highway, West of Marietta has been stocking 2" foam this winter. This is the first I've seen it there so it may be a seasonal thing.

Use Google to search for a dealer near you if you know the brand name of the thicker foam that you want. Most manufacturers have an option on their home page titled, "Where to Buy" or "Find a Dealer," or some such, where you then search by state.

I live in Acworth and it took me a while to find 2" foam. You can get it from a small building supply company near the intersection of Fulton Industrial Blvd. and Camp Creek Pkwy. Call a Home Depot and ask them for the number - I think that's how I learned of them. If HD gives you a hassle, try calling insulation companies.
Sorry I can't be of more help. I could drive you there but can't tell you the name. I could try to give directions if that would help...

I live in Young Harris, Ga. which is up in the mountains in NE Georgia. The thickest I can get from regular stock is 1". I've gotten used to gluing it up and laminating it. Yellow carpenters glue works well. Sorry I didn't have happier news.
Have Fun,

Try a commercial insulation supplier. Even in Georgia, every convenience store, grocery store, and restaraunt with a walk-in freezer is built using the extruded foam insulation. If necessary, call a commercial refrigeration supplier to find a source.

I have no idea, unless you can get one of your local building suppliers to order it for you. Here in south Georgia Lowes carries 1/2" and 3/4" but even the one inch is not available without special order. There are very few calls for that thickness in construction so they don't stock "specialty" sizes.

try a better building supply store. i get mine at a local lumber yard and i try to avoid home depot at all costs. i can get it in several sizes from 1/2", 3/4", 1", 1 1/2", and 2". it comes in 2' x 8' sheets tongue and groove. here in the northeast insulation is a big thing and you can get just about anything.

My local Home Depot and Lowes here in Georgia only carries 1/2" extruded foam called 'foamular' at $8.96 per 4x8 sheet, and besides needing quite a bit to make any mountains, I was thinking that price a bit ridiculous for trying to build scenery on a 15x20 layout. Anybody in Georgia know where I can get 2" thick foam sheets (4x8) for a reasonable price? I'm in the Atlanta area
