kasskaboosepainter's tape
Thought about painters tape, but in search of something easily moveable I happened upon some thin rubber shims once used for mounting computers and other accessories to bicycle handlebars. The shims kinda fit the contour of the tank car having been pre-formed of sorts by long being clamped to handlebars.
Working out pretty good so far, the MDC tank car allows using a wedge shaped make-up sponge to help hold the shim in place. Have to remember to wipe the edge of the shim after each streak. Thinking this method might come in handy when weathering cylindrical shaped covered hoppers.
Thanks and regards, Peter
kasskabooseWas worried the topic would go south fast about the streaking.

That's cool how to make the streaking. What about using painter's tape to provide help to ensure the streaks don't go awry?

The Bear streaking is not only not a pretty sight but a bad idea!!

You know, even if I don't realy have those types of issues, there have been times, even when younger, that my lines have not been very straight, great idea.

Great idea, and thank you for sharing.
I am adding this trick to my ideas folder.

Living the dream.
Yep, good job, who said you can't teach a old tool a new trick.
While practicing tank car weathering my waning steadiness of hand was evident, nothing ruins the looks of streaking effects like crooked streaks. How annoying is laying down a nice perpendicular streak or spilled product stain, only to have it appear to defy gravity by veering away unrealistically towards the end. Employing an old homemade surface gauge clamped to the bench showed big improvement. Can be used to help steady the hand or as a guide for brush or pencil.
Happy Streaking. Regards, Peter
