Seldom has there been a better demonstration of sarcasm not being recognizable on text-only discussion boards.
Anyone might expect that the ad would have been in the era when "3D movies" were a fad, and any moviegoing kid would have the cardboard filter glasses to enjoy it.
And equally yes, a very great many of those glasses would have been discarded (for want of 'use') by the time of the LBJ administration...

Harding was president, first use as we know it with red and green glasses was 1922.
I threw away my 3D glasses in the Johnson Administration.
