Atlas Trainmaster DCC lighting Question

I just bought the analog version of the new Atlas HO traimaster. I plugged my digitrax decoder in and I can't get the front lights to work . The back ones turn on when I use the 0 function but the front ones don't respond. I used two decoders to test the loco and both decoders work fine on my Atlas 8-40 loco and when I run the trainmaster back in analog the front lights work again. So what am I doing wrong? The decoder is fine. The lights are ok because they work in DC. I am using the DH123P digitrax decoder. Do I have to program something? The lighting is kinda funky, it's different from my other locos. Mini lights are like entrenched inside a computer chip thing. I was thinking it might have to be programmed because it might be a mars light or something.
So if anyone knows what to do about this, I would appreciate any feedback.
thanks
lou

Perhaps the decoder is plugged in backwards? Does the loco run in the proper direction?
