Desperate 80 Ton 3 Truck Shay Owner
Posted by JDVass on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 8:38 PM

Hi all. I know it's a long shot but I have to try. I am in deperate need of the rear truck off of an HO Bachmann Spectrum 80 ton 3 truck Shay. It doesn't matter if the gears are cracked. There was a horrible Catzilla attack on the Lestock sub of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Thankfully damage was contained to only my Shay.

If there is anyone that can help me out please let me know. Thanks in advance.

T.C.A. meet in town starting Thursday the 20th. You never know what one will find. I'll watch for one or... two. Low cost, low budget project, maybe even make a even trade.

You might want to contact Bachmann and see if they can help. They have a good spare parts department.

You will likely not find replacement trucks easily, short of buying another locomotive and cobbling them together. All of the shay owners with cracked gears bought up Bachmann's stock of trucks and sideframes years ago...I keep hoping they will run some more but that seems unlikely now. I think PC 101 has the right idea. Good luck in your search...

If you could find someone to duplicate the truck in a 3D cad,  that would make a printed replacement possible.   Somebody might have already done that for replacement for the same reasons.

Struck out at the T.C. A. meet, at least with the Bachmann Shay's third truck.

Well, I gave up on quickly finding parts for my beloved Shay.

I found a Spectrum Shay on Ebay that was listed in as new condition for a decent price. It should be here Tuesday. I'll keep my other one just in case I stumble accross a truck somewhere.
