help!

I own 3 Atlas AEM-7's, and they have given me years of reliable performance and good looks. However, anyone familiar with them probably knows my problem - the copper wire strung between insulators on the roof. Unlike the prototype, the wire is a bright copper color and distracts the eye from the beauty of the model. Removing the wire is not an option; it must be cut off and therefore is impossible to remove and paint.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not familiar with the particular engine but have much experience with what would seem to be a similar problem. For example, GN green or UP gray boiler jackets and black piping. Slip a piece of note paper under the wire and paint away! The only thing to be carefull of is getting too much paint on the backing paper so that the wire scrapes it off the paper in a glob when you pull the paper out from under it.

If it's actually copper wire, I'd say some Blacken-It or gun bluing applied with a Q tip would darken it down?
