When Randy and I were building the portable N scale layout for Scale Rails Of Southwest Florida back in 1992, N scale backdrops were hard to find. We used the HO scale Walthers backdrops instead.
Through experimentation, we found it looked better if smaller buildings were placed near the backdrop, and the HO scale buildings just towered over them.

I found a picture of this coliseum on the internet, enlarged it, Photo Shopped the marguee, printed it in three sections, and mounted it on Gatorfoam to give it some depth. I'm really happy how it turned out.
The photo isn't quite sharp enough to read the marquee but the coming attractions are the Harlem Globetrotters and Bill Haley and the Comets. Perfect for my 1956 time period.
I had considered scratchbuilding an indoor arena but even a minimum sized arena would have eaten up far to much real estate so I made this to be a background structure.

The majority of the railroads in the United States call the car at the end of their trains a caboose. Other common names are hacks, crummies, vans, cabin cars, or shacks. But why did the Burlington call theirs a waycar? It is believed that the term originated around the turn of the century [1900], coming from older passenger cars that had been converted for use as "Way Freight Rider Cars" or "Way Freight Cabooses." Because of it's length, the term was shortened to a single word, "Waycar." The term caught on with the employees of the Burlington, and from that time forward, the Burlington cabooses have been proudly known as waycars.
If Garry were still with us he could explain the CB&Q's use of waycar better than I could. I hear in some circles the C&NW and Santa Fe* used the term, too, but this may have been local vernacular.
