A Brief Visitors Question

Just my 2 cents worth. Though I model the '50s-'60s era, and think that the ATSF warbonnets were about the sharpest trains around, these days are gone in real life here in the 21st century.

Since so little is left of the "original" ATSF railroad of that era, it would be natural for the merged railroad to seek its' own identity. (Thankfully UP has brought all their merged and purchased roads in and kept their identity strong.)

As far as the color scheme and logo itself, to me, it is better than some, worse than others. But it does give them an "identity" of their own instead of trying to merge all the diverging logos into something barely recognizable.

For modelers the ATSF, CB&Q, GN, NP and others will always be with us. In real life, they are (unfortunately) long gone.

Just a new look, no different than when SP went to speed lettering, no big deal! However since I am a GN fan I do like the BNSF orange scheme. Isn't that what "Heritage" means? BN came from the merger of the Hill railroads. I think the green was hideous, but I thought the same of the GN blue and white scheme, too. That's why I model 1947/48. Orange and green...Go Rocky!

Nope, don't like it at all - but then again that's just my opinion. Too bad they couldn't come up with a logo that combined the old GN goat and the Santa Fe circle thingie with the warbonnet scheme. That would be cool.

It's amazing how much loyalty railfans and modelrailroaders have to their favorite railroads (and sometimes their successors) as well as the knowledge of the various lines' histories. Perhaps the powers to be in the next merger will suggest a logo/paint scheme contest. Imagine, entry forms in MRR, RMC etc. Paint up a diesel take a pic and send it in. What a PR coup for both the railroad and the hobby.

I couldn't agree more. Yeah, I know the orange and green is supposed to be a nostaligic Great Northern homage, but I still say BLEECH. And to add insult to injury, BN repainted all their rolling stock from Cascade Green to that boring Mineral Red.

The best BNSF "Dream Scheme" I've seen was somebody who painted a RPP GP60M in a Warbonnet scheme, but instead of the ATSF red, they substituted BN's Cascade Green to go with the silver...looked sharp. That's what they should have done instead of that horrid rotten pumpkin look.

Wonder if the new logos look any better on the rolling stock than on the locos - also wonder how long it will take Microscale to get off their butts and make the decals for them. *sigh* Looks like it's back into the paintbooth again, and scouring eBay for more undec models. Thanks a lot, BNSF.

I don't like it at all. Makes me think of the SPSF Kodachrome logo. What a nightmare it would be if they brought out a new variation of that scheme!

That it doesn't seem likely that a merger of this type would happen any time soon. Don't forget. Norfolk Southern, (just like CSX) is still recovering from the Conrail buyout, which now has made financial bean counters wonder if it was a wise business move for both of the carriers.

Here is what i think the one thing that is great about us model railroaders is we can model an era of our choosing I think the new paint scheme is kind of orange and if you don't like it you could always model the old paint scheme kinda like time standing still

I am one of those "younger modelers" and agree that the new color scheme looks nice on that loco. It definately looks and feels more modern to me.

The new logo: It's catchy and "O.K. Seems to connote speed but Trolley Boy is really on to something. This logo sort of makes me think of Crest or Gleem Toothpaste!!!!!!!!

I liked the Santa Fe very much and wish BNSF would have kept the warbonnet longer, but they've moved forward. More than likely the Marketing people recommended the adoption of a "flashier" modern attention getting logo.

Realistically speaking in a business sense............BNSF's shippers likely couldn't care less!

I think the best way to describe it is that it looks like the logo off a dollar store brand tube of toothpaste. I hope they didn't pay too much for the art work[:D] TB

We tend to get used to new paint schemes and this one will allow Kato and Athearn many new sales in HO.
The H2 schem is flashy when new or clean, but does not look good with the stack fires that GE's experience.

The old RED and SILVER was one of the best paint schemes ever, but we don't expect to see it again soon except on the models.

Like all new looks, it will take some getting used to by the people who like or grew up with the old look. In a couple years, it will just be accepted.

Go to http://www.bnsf.com I'm form Minnesota, in BNSF country. I model the Northern Pacific. I lost interest in this line when the merger happened between N.P., G.N. C.B. & Q. and S.P. & S. in 1970. B.N. became somewhat more interesting by the addition of S.F. I'm neither here nor there about the color scheme. Removing the S.F.'s circle thingy is one more step at the loss of these railroad's heritage. However, on a scale of 1-10 of importance to life, I give it a -5.

The color scheme is pretty close to the 'old' scheme, but the new logo pretty much eliminates any visual references to its SF past.

That's one of the beauties of being a 'model' railroader. Some of us are perpetually lost back in a simpler time when most roads still had their distinctive and original logos.
