Good Morning Diners.  Chloe, large coffee and a stack of blueberry pancakes please!

Watched my nephew play soccer last night.  Rivalry game against another local school.  Both teams went into the game 4-0 in conference play.  It was a great game and our boys came away with the win.  It was kind of a unique game so far this year in that both teams played well, both teams played cleanly, and the official was good and fair.  Haven't been enough games like that this season unfortunately.

I'm so excited for work to be over today!  I'm leaving straight from work to go pick my daughter up from college for the weekend. Big Smile  It's her first time home since we dropped her off at the start of the school year.  I've got a couple special dinners planned for Friday and Saturday.  It's going to be a great weekend.

Whoa, top of the page and Chloe just showed up with the pancakes I ordered.  Dig in guys, I ordered more.

Scrounging for something to eat, I found an old box of Eggo waffles in the freezer. I do not remember buying these.

Hi Kevin,

You have my sympathies. Long overdue frozen foods can be pretty gross.

Dianne and I are risking the same fate. We have a large freezer and it is full to the top! We have declared many times that we will only eat what's in the freezer for a couple of weeks in order to get rid of the surplus. It never works.GrumpyBang Head As soon as we have some clear space along comes another bargain which invariably fills the freezer to the top again!Bang Head

The truth is that we are spoiled. We can buy whatever we want whenever we want. Long gone are the days when we went from paycheque to paycheque (thank goodness!!!). We simply have to develop more resolve!

Cheers!!

Dave

Good morning

Been having difficulties posting sumore.

Good thing the Railroad strike was avoided.  A tetitive deal, from what I understand was reached after only eleven hours of deliberation.

Others certainly would have discovered, (as we all know here), how important the Railroad is to us all, if that strike would have commenced.

Two billion bucks a day lost certainly wouldn't have done anyone any good on a catastrophic level.

I don't believe any of this is political.  I'm just stating what a critical role our Railroads provide and should be appreciated by everyoneYes

Have a great day gentlemenWink

Good morning, everyone.  Thanks for the pancakes.

Mike, have a good time with your daughter home from college.

Kevin, I haven't liked Eggos ever since I tasted them when the grandkids came one time.  I thought it would be an easy breakfast, and the grandkids liked them, but I'd rather just make my own from scratch.  My wife eats Lefse (Norwegian flatbread) for breakfast, and to me, it's like wet cardboard.

Jim, we drive through Salina several times a year on our way to and from Dallas, TX.  We normally don't stop, but the Cozy Inn sounds like it may be worthwhile to get off the Interstate and have a lunch there.

Ed, that's a sad picture of the locomotives at the scrap yard.  It's hard to imagine those same locomotives coming out of the factory bright and powerful years ago.

Dave, we have the same issue at our house with the freezer.  We have things in there that were probably made before the rules mandated any dates labels.  We also now buy most of what we eat each day.  Our small town grocery stores is only blocks away, and it's easier just to buy food that we want each day.  It sounds like what some European towns are like.

Bear, the poster with the E units is great!  That's what trains looked like when I was a kid, and I wish they'd never changed.

Lion, when Mom made fresh cookies, there weren't any left to put into the freezer.

TF, I hope you can figure out what's causing your posting problems.  The diner suffers when the Post Hog isn't here several times a day!

At our house, it's cleaning day.  We're having out-of-town company for several days.  It's the only time we clean the house the way it should be.

This blue heron is in a 'lake' (actually a large mud puddle) in our town.  This might be the same heron I see on my daily morning walks:

For all those mentioned and not mentioned, I hope you have a great day.

Good evening everyone. We have had lightning and thunder all day, but not a drop of rain has fallen from the skies.

There is a tropical storm out in the Atlantic. In a week, it might be close to Florida. You cannot imagine the excitement and glee in the local weather forecasters now that they have something to talk about.

One of the local stations is even having a one hour special tonight about the storm.

I am betting right now, that it does not even effect Cape Coral... any takers... none... OK.

This is going to be a long week for the news until the storm finally turns North.

You have to feel for these meteorologists.  There haven't been any storms in the Gulf so far this year, and the weathermen are getting squirrelly.

We had thunderstorms last night; no hail or tornados.  The NWS says we got 1.39 inches of rain, which we needed badly.

My wife left for a week long trip to Texas.  My daughter is taking her to a Michael Buble concert in Dallas tonight; and then she will go spend a couple of days with her before heading to her mother's mid week.  Her mom is having cataract surgery and needs a little help.

I am looking forward to some time in the train room.  I will try to post some pictures if I make any progress.

Greetings from our Southern Command. visiting MS for a few days. going to do not much of anything while here.

Kevin: That sounds about right with the giddy weather people and the tropical storm.

when I lived in Houston if a storm appeared in the Atlantic they had it hitting Houston every time then people would empty the shelves and the storm would hit S Carolina.

I have been cleaning out the undergrowth around my house and repainting some areas where the paint started peeling. who ever planted this english ivy at my house should be shot.

My steps had faded so I repainted those as well. I still have to paint the side porch steps.

I have a giant Holly bush that has gone wild again, time to give it the chain saw  treatment again. I use the chain saw on a stick ( as the wife calls the pole saw).

Good morning

Oh I get it!  One Buck out of two billionHuh?...Laugh

BroadwayLion

I wonder how long it would take to count a 1,000 million bucks twice?  Let's find out, ... a one, a two, a threeLaugh

We've taken in quite a few extended weekend getaways this summer as they are fun.

Here's my brother-in-law's mechanic shop he re-built the Mustang up in Wisconsin.

I remember that exciting day in the Fall when he was all done building my engineStick out tongue

I OSB'ed the inside of that pull-barn about 13 years ago after we did the new roof.  The only difference is the panels cost 8 bucks back then instead of 50 bucks now.

My brother-in-law had his own band when he was a youngster.  He reformed a new one, think to re-live his childhood now that he's getting older.  Don't we all do things like that thoughWhistling

That's me leaning over his steel guitar singing Wish You Were Here.  Did  some Johnny Cash too, it was fun.

Cousin Jason had been to Oatman to see the tame donkeys and had the same sweatshirt so I grabbed my Oatman t-shirt out of my bag and put it on over my flannel.

It was kinda stupid but at the same time fun while having a few beersLaugh

Dave left his drum set for the weekend so CC could play them.

She really liked playing the drums and was actually not too bad at it for how little she is.

Huh,  Posting was working rather well this morningYes

Have a great weekend gentlemenWink

Good morning, diners.

We have out-of-town company here, so the next several days will be busy.

Kansas is the leading wheat producing state, growing nearly one-fifth of all wheat in the U.S.  Wheat is one of the U.S.'s big exports, and a lot of wheat is transported to the docks by train.

Wheat harvest in Kansas is a beautiful scene for photographers.

Have a great one, gentlemen.

I was sitting out on my back porch here at the Southern Command Post reading and a humming bird flew right up in my face two or three times, That was neat, the first time I have had one get that close.

I must have smelled good....

My daughter is taking her to a Michael Buble concert in Dallas tonight; and then she will go spend a couple of days with her before heading to her mother's mid week.

That should be a great time. I took my youngest daughter to see Michael Buble at the Naples Philharmonic Center For The Arts about ten years ago. He was great.

They are a funny bunch right now.

The storm turned to the North today, and it is heading into the Atlantic... however... they have warned us that this should not make us feel safe and this is not the time to relax yet.

I am looking forward to the 6:00 updates.

Is anyone else being harassed by that ad for the Chevrolet electric vehicle today?

It starts at the bottom as a normal ad, but when I scroll down, it grows and fills the whole screen, then it will not shrink or close.

I have had to exit the forum several times because of it.

Frustrating. The other ads are not doing this, just the one.

Good morning, everyone.  Just a quick post this morning.  The out-of-town company and I are going to do some traveling to some cemeteries and sight-seeing in the area.

Looking at gravestones is not my favorite activity, and it will be good to have a happy hour when we get home this afternoon.

I'm just about over the baseball-watching season, and I'm getting excited about football.  My favorite baseball team lost last night by walking in the winning run.Ashamed  Million dollar pitchers!  Time to end the season.

Out here on the plains, there is not a lot of industry.  That's why this complex stands out so much.  It's a grain handling -- ethanol plant about 20 miles away.  I'm always amazed at the number of train tank cars and covered hoppers this place handles.

In industrialized areas, this would probably be a common site, but out here, it really stands out.  Some neat modeling ideas if you want chemical or oil refinery projects for the layout.

Have a great day everyone!

My wife came back home from Seattle tonight.

Her flight was almost two hours late arriving in Fort Myers. The plane ran out of fuel on the way, and it had to land in Tampa for more. That caused the delay.

I can't even wrap my head around that one. I guess they fuel planes with just enough fuel to reach their destination... a little head wind... you can't make it the last 100 miles of a 4,000 mile flight.

Crazy.

Hi Kevin,

Do you remember the story about the 'Gimli Glider'?

In 1983 an Air Canada Boeing 767 ran out of fuel half way throught its flight from Montreal to Edmonton. The flight crew were able to make a dead stick landing from 41,000 ft. at a retired air force base in Gimli, Manitoba. Nobody was injured either on the plane, or on the ground despite the fact that there was a car race taking place on the runways as the plane landed.

The investigation uncovered a series of combined blunders and equipment failures that resulted in the plane only receiving half of its proper fuel load. People were quick to blame the recent conversion from imperial measurement to metric, and while that did play a part, faulty fuel level indicators and errors by mechanics were the real culprits.

Must have been an interesting ride!

Cheers!!
