DoughlessI can't help you with articles from MR (that's typical around here, you don't get an answer to your actual question,

Mark LaidlayI want to model something resembling a cement manufacturing plant, where they heat the limestone and end up distributing in bulk or bags.
As you seem to know, cement manufacturing takes place in large complexes of buildings. A large footprint. What we typically see as models is better known as a Ready Mix plant. Cement is not manufactured at a ready mix plant. Concrete is produced at a ready mix plant, usually in small batches. Cement is a component of concrete.
A good article on the cement making process:
https://www.thermofisher.com/blog/mining/the-cement-manufacturing-process/#:~:text=Cement%20manufacturing%20is%20a%20complex,C%20in%20a%20cement%20kiln.
Cement plants are likely near limestone quarries. Not on top of the quarry, but close to the source of limestone. Likely close enough to truck the limestone into the plant. The other igredients might typically be brought in by rail. Gypsum or Fly Ash, any chemical additive.
The Walthers Valley Cement plant has the major components of a cement plant. The kiln and the rotary crusher being notably unique buildings than a ready mix plant or a cement distribution center ( like Walthers Medusa Cement).
I can't help you with articles from MR (that's typical around here, you don't get an answer to your actual question, ). There is an old thread on this forum about how the Valley Cement plant would work, but my search abilities are not good.
but Google Images have lots of pics of cement manufacturing plants. Maybe you can figure out where the kiln and crushers are, and then fabricate a close model of the two.

Hi Mark,
Something interesting that may be of help. Look at the kits below. Both are, basically identical. The Faller structure (1st photo) and IHC kit (2nd photo) are basically identical kits. The Faller version offers better detailed parts and is more expensive than the IHC version. However, the IHC kit can be very easily spruced up with detailing, painting, and weathering.
Both kits show up regularly on ebay.
If space is not an issue on your layout, Walthers Valley Cement Plant (currently in stock at Walthers) might interest you.

That's strange, or maybe I'm losing it, there is a reply by JaBear but it is not shown here.
MARK, "Search the Community" over there on the right for "Cement Plants". There may be your answer.
OK NOW I SEE, THIS QUESTION IS ALSO POSTED IN ''LAYOUTS AND LAYOUT BUILDING''. PC101 the .

I vaguely remember an article in MR sometime but can't find an index of the 40 years of mags I have.
Any help with article is appreciated
