As a former prolific ebay seller, I would just say that there is no way I would have ever shipped a model railroad car in a bag. There are not enough peanuts or bubble wrap to guarantee the integrity of the model through the shipping process if one was to rely on a bag as the shipping container. That car should have been in a sturdy box, wrapped in bubble wrap, with peanuts in the voids of the box to insure no movement in transit.
I would hope that the shipment was insured, at the least.
thomas81zlol wow how did you get it cleaned out i have a 4/3 in cape & i still need to stuff my garage with stuff & not always my stuff in the garage ( wifes tumbler biz )
I have lots of storage space above the garage in the "attic" space. All the holiday stuff is up there. I also do not allow clutter to collect. Pretty much anything not used in a year gets donated or disposed. I am strict about this.
The truck sleeps outside now, but when I bought this house pickups were still illegal to park in Cape Coral (I wish that would come back). We had to keep the garage cleaned out and I just kept it that way.

I have issues with FedEx more it seems - Last 2 packages from them, they marked as "Delivered, side door."
I don't have a "side door"....
Neither one was not at my front door, nor back door, nor garage door. I have no other doors... When I called to state the last one was missing, the operator stated "The driver has it marked as at your side door."
"I don't have a side door."
And the FedEx operator, mind-blowingly, asked me "Are you sure?"
Wonder if anyone ever said "You know, maybe someone put one in while I wasn't looking, let me double check"....
By that point, I was slightly annoyed, so I stated "Yes, I'm sure. I never have this issue with UPS." The next day they had "found" my package, and it was at my front door.
USPS also has mis-delivered before, but usually they know exactly where and have it corrected next day. (Usually it's the neighbors.)

NittanyLion It seems to really depend on what you buy. I break down plenty of Amazon boxes for my wife, but anything I get is in a bag. Once, not even an Amazon bag. They just slapped a shipping label on the clear plastic bag that a pair of jeans comes in from the factory.

Mvlandsw, could you post a picture of the prototype or a link if it is on the Net...I had one as a kid and would love to see what the real thing looked like!
richhotrain wrench567 This could be a daily thread. Not just USPS but add UPS and Fed Ex too. Lest we forget Amazon, it will go out of its way to put anything and everything in a plastic bag. Rich

Once upon a time when Amazon shipped by UPS and USPS before they had their own fleet I got an interesting answer from UPS on Amazon's bags. (It was when I had to handle claims at a UPS counter service) UPS said that Amazon and several others had a contract where they did not file claims and could ship in bags (Unlike everyone else) but that they saved with their volume far more by not buying the boxes and the increased weight and size.
SeeYou190 Doughless UPS and Amazon are getting bad about leaving packages in front of the garage door, making it easy for us to back over them. Same here. This was not a problem until I got the garage cleaned out so we could park in there again. -Kevin

My brother had one of those cars and I always thought that it was something that Lionel dreamt up like the giraffe car or the aquarium car. I have since found pictures of the prototype and would very much like to have an HO version. Too bad Lionel didn't make one in that scale.
This could be a daily thread. Not just USPS but add UPS and Fed Ex too. I still laugh at the time when a UPS driver taped a message to my front door. It said " Your package was not delivered because we couldn't find your address. You can pickup your package at the local UPS location." Incompetent is not strong enough. The lady behind the counter was laughing her butt off over the note.
I've had things crushed, missing because the box was broken open, folded when it said DO NOT FOLD, and mis delivered. My favorite was the important documents left laying on the front step in the poring rain instead of the mailbox..

Hello All,
Recently I had a similar situation but not as severe.
For better or worse we have no USPS home delivery.
We are "given" P.O. boxes free of charge; we do have to provide proof of residency annually.
Some packages are delivered to the lockers in the post office while some have to be scanned and given in person- -I still don't understand the difference.
When a package is ready for pickup a yellow slip is placed in the P.O. box for notification.
With yellow slip in hand, I went to the desk to get my package.
Upon receipt, I noticed that the corner of the box was crushed.
The postmaster scanned the package and handed it to me like nothing was wrong.
I said, "The package is damaged."
He replied, "Yes, it has been 'recorded'."
My response was, "I need to open it in front of you to make sure the contents aren't damaged and I don't need to begin a 'damaged in transit' claim."
There were people in line behind me but I stood firm.
After opening and inspecting the contents; nothing was damaged, he said, "That's a big box for a little item."
I responded, "It's a good thing because that 'big box' prevented any damage done by mishandling."
He grinned sheepishly and called the next person forward.
In my buyer feedback on eBay, I noted that the USPS damaged the package but the contents were unaffected because of the excellent packaging (five-star rating for the seller).
Hope this helps.
"Uhh...I didn’t know it was 'impossible' I just made it work...sorry"
If you register with UPS (free), you can add a note to all incoming deliveries of where to leave the packages. I have a note on all incoming to be "placed inside front porch", which is enclosed.
That package however would have it's own issues even if left inside the porch....
And its totally based upon the driver. It varies from delivery to delivery, and sometimes one of them will make the effort to go to the front door. USPS is the same guy, for at least a few months anyway until it changes.

I think that you can just buff that out.
UPS and Amazon are getting bad about leaving packages in front of the garage door, making it easy for us to back over them. Need to make a habit to check behind the car. (Edit: Are you sure your spouse/teenage driver didn't back over it and blame it on USPS? LOL)
USPS still brings them to the door. Its the same driver. We give him a Christmas card every year and greet him when we see him. A bit of a relationship that hopefully prompts him to take a few more steps down the sidewalk.
We are considering building a little outdoor drop zone with a sign that says "Packages go here", near the garage but away from the door.
It looks like something very heavy fell on that box, or it was stepped on by a large human.
This is a special circumstance. I have never had anything arrive in condition like that.
I had one as a kid, before I joined a club using HO. It was such a weird car I had to have it and blew several month's allowance on it. IIRC it's carrying a heat exchanger for a power station.
Not sure what Shane is saying here. The first picture seems to show a crushed USPS priority box within a mailer. [EDIT: On closer inspection, the folded edge is too thin to be box material. It's treatment, not packing material that's the issue.] And it looks like the corner of something much heavier was dropped upon it. It might well have required a wooden box to protect it from what happened. In any case, it's apparent that the damage didn't occur merely because it was dropped or tossed around.

NVSRRseller hand it in a bubble wrap bag and well packed in more wrap
A bag?? Should have been in a box.
Victory sort of
The frame car was a total loss. salvavaged one truck and the break wheel. this started as a c9 collector piece. post office made it a c 9000 pieces. They were all there. seller hand it in a bubble wrap bag and well packed in more wrap. The exchanger does show its damage but slow glue a pieace at a time got it completely reassembled.
This is what it is suppossed to look like.
