OK I want to thank everyone for there help and advice. I tried a little of everything and then found a larger power pack worked them great thanks for all your advice it solved the problem fuzzypa

I have them wired up right it works ok But when i add the turnout it will only work one way I cannot get it to ewitch back it seems that it does not have enough power thanks fuzzypa

You've got them wired wrong.

1. wiih NO wires attached tdo they throw manually?

YES? You've wired them wrong. use 3 color wire. the GROUND is the center connection, and the HOT goes to a selector button or switch.

[8D] oh i think i have it wired up ok the switch works it goes both ways but thays not the problem.Icannot get it to operate when its attached to a peco switch.it will move the switch one(open) way only it cannot close the switch i have tried two peco power coils Fuzzypa

i posted a question some time ago about some power problems with the peco machines and it turned out that the power pack was not up to operating more than one peco at a time. we replaced the power pack and the problem was solved. in your case the peco machine requires three wires and a jumper between the two machine coils. 1 for the normal control wire, 1 for the reverse control wire and 1 for the common with a common jumper to the other coil. here's a tip. solder an ho scale rail joiner on the ends of the wires and then slip them on the lugs on the coils. perfect fit. this way you don't have to solder under the table.

The Peco switch machines take a bit of getting used to when wiring - basically what you have to do is add a short wire from one coil to the other, and a longer wire on the same side - this is your common return. On the other side you use one long wire from each coil to the two output pins of your electrical switch (if you're using Peco's lever switches, the outer pins/terminals are the output ones). The common return and centre terminal of the electrical switch (again, assuming Peco lever switches here though it would be the same on momentary-contact toggle switches) hook to the 16v AC output of the power supply. Hope this is of help!

I believe you have it wired wrong..I haven't dealt with pecos electric switches but i do remember the old Atlas custom line switches and they didn't wire up like the regular snap switches (everything in a row) ..try swapping the wires around on the posts and see if they start working in both directions...Chuck

fuzzypa, how have you wired your Peco switch machines? What sort of power supply are you using to throw them? Are you using the optional contact switches Peco makes on the switch machines as well?

With a decent power supply, I've not seen Peco switch machines fail to throw both ways, unless there was ballast jamming the switch points. A capacitor-discharge type power supply is best. And heavy-duty push buttons for the controls - not the cheap little red and black ones Radio Shack and others sell in bulk - those are only rated for 0.1 amp.

I'm hoping someone responds to this post. I'm planning on installing some elec. Peco switching devices on a few of my hard to reach Peco turnouts. I'd like to know about potential problems before I start this task.

Any one no why peco elec switches can only move switch one way it cannot move the switch the outher way .the electric switch is hooked up to work under the table .I have tried a different switch they are both new.[8]
