Thanks for all the help. Cleaned up thew rubber tires and brushed and wiped a grey on them. Used silk cord for the ropes that I stained with my weathering alcohol, they look great. Hardest part was making the lengths of rope close to same length but made a jig to tie a loop, the acc the knot and cut off the strings as close as possible. Then just puched a loop though the tire anf ran the other end up though the loop and placed the other end over the mooring hiding the knot (only one dside of car float will be viewable).

Got many powders and a few cans of Modelmasters lusterless flat so should be good, thanks.
Will keep trying? Bayway Terminal
rrebellblack rubber,
Gave the rubber tire bumpers a shot of Dullcote before a light air brush dusting of grey paint. In retrospect wish I'd used rubber tires for all the Susie D's bumpers, IMO they look better than the metal castings. Also, a coating of grey powder or pastel instead of airbrush dusting for a more overall weathered look.

Hi Bayway Terminal,
In order to see your tug photo we have to set up an account with the host. If you use Imgur, we don't have to do that. Imgur is free. If you need help, there is a photo posting thread at the top of the General Discussions forum, or just ask for help.

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
The tires I will use were donated to me years ago by a fellow modler who was into trucks, black rubber, any finishing ideas for these?
rrebellI am finishing up detailing my carfloads
Thanks rrebell, I know you're going to have lots of fun drillin' your carfloat. Doing so in a somewhat prototypical fashion is a favorite activity of mine when operating my switching layout, also something my grandson once enjoyed.
Bayway Terminal, Darn, was hoping to see your tug, but for some reason can't see it thru the link.
Frank, Like your tug, especially the wheel house interior.
I used Sailing ship rigging twine. Scales out to 1/82th which is a Beige color. Rigging that is black is called standing rigging and not ajustable. Tires are from A-Line Truck tires, vinyl rubber with threads on them.

I found close to HO scale size white colored braied thread at the local sewing shop and stained it dark oak, aferwards cut to length for tying and used CA to adhere everythingin place on my kit bashed Walthers tug . Hopefully you can See the Photo below by clinking on the link. Baway Terminal NJ

HO-Velo Hard to beat the detail of Syren Ship Model Co. scale rope. Regards, Peter
Hard to beat the detail of Syren Ship Model Co. scale rope.
I used ordinary twine.
I should have gone over them with a light brush painting of something like a thin wash of tan and maybe a bit of green.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
I am finishing up detailing my carfloads and decided a few tire bumpers would be nice. I have plenty of HO tires but they need ropesw added. Was wondering if I could use micro solder .3mm twisted together to form relistic ropes, other ideas? Maybe a better idea would be to use .45 silk bead cord and stiffen it somehow?
