The Athearn SD45T-2 is pretty detailed right out of the box. What additional details are in Walthers kit? I think the SD45T-2 model needs treadplate added and proper cut levers, and depending on when it was producted, possible a correct plow.

First: which detail kit ? There's a full kit, and a few different kits that only do like the fuel tanks, or cab details, or underwalkway conduit, or access doors on the hood, et-cetera.
If you could post a picture of the instructions/ images , I might be able to help.
( I don't happen to have a detail kit here at the moment, otherwise I could just look at mine.)
I have used a few of their sets before, the Dash 9 set was the last one I remember using.
Rust...... It's a good thing !
I have an SD45 from scaletrain but it may look different from SD45T-2. Not sure if I can help...

Hi Matt.
I'm not so much as a diesel modeler. When I super detailed my brass PRR K5s pacific I had photos of both sides and the front in black and white. What really helped was a magnifying glass and a set of calipers for measurements and comparison to known dimensions.
Get as many pictures as you can or actually track one down and take your own photos. The K5s went to the scrappers torch years before I was born so all I had was pictures in books and on the web.
I did have a good time researching it though.
Pete.
Hi all,
This will be my first time detailing a model. I am having trouble locating where the parts are located on the images provided with the kit. I have everything needed to assemble but need to find where to put the parts first!
Thanks to anybody who can help
Matt
