We feel very strongly that sharing online shouldn’t mean giving up rights to your photos. Our Terms of Service clearly spell out that Flickr/Yahoo! doesn’t own the photos that you upload. You, as a member, maintain all ownership rights to the photos that you upload to Flickr. Our Terms of Service allow us to,
“use, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, publicly perform and publicly display such Content on the Yahoo! Services solely for the purpose for which such Content was submitted or made available.” (Please see Section 9b of the Terms of Service for the full text.)
This grants Flickr the right to provide the Flickr service, i.e. create the small, medium, and large sizes, display your photos on the site, etc. It doesn’t mean that we own them.

You can also set restrictions on individual photos as far as who may download them or who may share them to other sites.
Sometimes I use the share icon in Flickr and post a photo from another user's album, for instance this one is a Mike Daneman photo but he allows sharing.

You'll notice his name in the link so that you can click that and visit his "albums" of photos, all excellent, by the way.
Other users prefer to restrict the sharing of their photos or will limit them to certain sites (Facebook, for instance) Same with downloading. Barriger Library allows full resolution downloads but under copyright use I do not repost their photos under my name.

If you click the photo and go to Flickr you will find that you can download this photo in a pretty good resolution (3088 x 2064) for personal use. Again this is user selectable.
These things I'm used to as a paid "Pro" member. There may be differences in the free account, I'm not sure. For me it is worth the $1.35 a week to have a hosting site where I can manage my 44,975 photos. It is worth it for me to also have a "cloud" storage site where I can have a backup of photos with no restriction on file size or resolution.

The way Blogger works is Pages are available in the Pages Menu. I don’t put my hosting picture posts in the Pages Menu. Again no storage limit or picture size. Ed, thank you for interjecting. Exactly what I was looking for.
Kind of like a bulletin board where I could pin photos, or possibly a folder of photos, where I could direct individuals if they wanted to see something or things. Or maybe like directing someone to a website without having to incur the cost of a website.
Several others thought that I was looking for a hosting site where I could put a photo for posting to this forum later, which was not the case.
And you are correct in that the other sites mentioned did not seem to offer the flexibility that Flickr does. I'll have to investigate this when I geget a chance.
And the 1K photo limit is not a concern, since that's about 980 more space than I need.

If I may interject here on behalf of the OP, one of the specifics he is asking about is being able to allow individual photos to only be viewed by "authorized" viewers.
I'm aware of many of the free photo hosting sites being mentioned here but I'm not sure if they offer the "privacy" settings that I first pointed out that Flickr offers.
I have several individuals on my "friends" list and others on a "family" list that are the only authorized individuals with permission to view the photos. Other photos are easily "locked" so that they are only available to me. This is handy for personal photos that I may want access to remotely but I don't want anyone else to see.
Maybe these other hosting sites DO offer this? I know Google Blog offers certain privacy settings but I don't know if these settings can be attributed to individual photos as Flickr allows.
Imgur seems to have a public and private setting for each photo. That's a step in the right direction. Flickr offers more options beyond that but these are the details that Maxman is looking for.

I can't figure out why the fast food chains charge us more for fake meat than they do for the real thing. If they want us to try it out, they ought to at least discount it. I've never tried the tofu burgers and tofu chicken nuggets but I've heard they are just awful. No reason for me to give it a try.

I remember Lee Marvin doing a Pall Mall commercial and telling viewers with Pall Mall they could light either end. Arnold Palmer was the Marlboro Man before there was a Marlboro Man. Athletes were often used in cigarette ads. I think Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio both did Chesterfield ads. So did newsmen like Mike Wallace. The earliest anchorman I remember on TV was John Cameron Swayze's Camel News Caravan in the mid 1950s. Those were the days.
I've been using Imgur to post pictures on this forum for about 6 months now. From the right hand menu I click images. That brings up all the images I have uploaded. I select the one I want to include in my post. When it comes up, I go to the right and Copy the BBcode. I then paste that link into my post and it will display the image after I have submitted the post.
I have used only the free option which means I get the pop up ads but that beats paying for it. I used to use Photobucket until they required one to use the premium subscription in order to share photos.

I've been using Flickr for maybe ten years now. I have the "pro" paid account ($70/yr) but there IS a free option to Flickr where you are limited to 1,000 photo uploads.

I'm sure by having the free account they'll probably encourage you to "trade up" to the paid service. As far as I know they don't engage in spamming you with lots of sponsor emails, popups and such.
What I'd like to do is upload some photos to a free hosting site, and then be able to allow some others to view them, preferably by giving the interested party a link.
I have an Imgur account, but it appears that the only way I can have someone link to the photo section is to be logged in myself. If I remain logged in, I think that anyone else can get into the photo section and then make setting changes and so forth.
Can anyone give me some advice as to how to make this happen, or if there is another hosting site that makes this easy?
