I use this free download link (listed below) for storing backround containers in the intermodel yard of my layout. From a distance the paper cut-outs look fine especially mixed in with factory plastic containers. It takes a few trys to produce realistic paper containers by using a mid-weight copy paper and double sided tape, and some shipping company color schemes copy better than others. If you decide to use these paper cut-outs for rolling stock you will have to use pre-weighed well ,cars or you can use automobile "peel & stick" wheel weights incerted in the bottom of the well car. I know that certain mfgr's produce unpainted containers and shipping company decals can be purchased as well, but I like to use factory finished Kato, Athearn, and Walthers pre-weighted containers in my well cars & maxi stacks in order to meet NMRA weight standards and for the lazar printed shipping specs listed on the container door ends. hjQiThis becomes really a personal taste.
Definitely, and if you decide for more details, the choice will usually mean that all of those cars will need the same degree of detail work. I learned that fairly early after deciding to add more details to the underbody of a freight car....and then more freight cars...many, many more freight cars. Those details often look pretty good if you're viewing them at eye-level, but if you're just running trains and throwing turnouts as you go, the underside of those cars might as well be in a snowbank.
It is likely that I will never have time to equip every car with brake gear....and I'm at the point where I'm beginning to not care...that's mainly because the ones not done are almost all hoppers - not a lot to see under those cars, even if you bother to add such details.

This becomes really a personal taste. Do you want a few cars with tons of details, or a long train with few details? When you have a long train, how much details can you see? even it is running at 10 MPH.... This is a debate I am struggling with.... Especially when I pay the price for the details under a car. How can I see these details if i want my train run smoothly without exposing what is under the car..

santafejeffHas anyone ever super detailed the evemodel well cars or the containers?
However, I've been on dozens of railfanning trips with friends, and to be honest, I never really noticed much in the way of details at all.
Here's a photo that does show the door latching equipment on the orange container, but beyond that, I've never notice much in the way of details on containers. (the photos will enlarge if clicked-upon)
There have been some with interesting lettering (not grafitti), but other than that, they're about as interesting to me as are trash trains....at least the containers don't include the smell.
Nowadays, a lot of trains, while impressive, are somewhat boring when the entire train is made-up of identical cars...
...this one was interesting mainly because various identical cars were dumping ballast via remote control, as indicated by the dust cloud...
...d'ya like auto-carriers?
...how about white tank cars?
...or empty hoppers...
...how about black tank cars?
This one actually was interesting...
...and this one, too...
...as was this one...
What I do always find interesting, are the friends who accompany me on these outings.
santafejeffHas anyone ever super detailed the evemodel well cars or the containers? How many of yall have them and are they worth buying?

Yes, those are the containers they have. Those are the decorated ones, they have colored but undec as well with a sprue of door latches to add after decaling. They also have well cars of various sizes offered. I was just wondering if anyone has tried to detail these versus spending triple the money on what is of course, superior details, especially with exact rail offerings. But, $150+ for a three car set seems a bit nutty but thats the world we are in these days. I have lots of styrene and razor blades. If anyone has pics of these cars being done or maybe a lead on detail kits it would be great. Thanks for your input too
Are they these?:

Looks like they are about $10 each plus shipping. So the comparison will be between these, cost of detail items, and whatever your time is worth versus whatever the cost is of the other models you mention.
Since I dont have any idea how to find a specific thread, Ill just ask and take the heat from the instructionists out there.
Has anyone ever super detailed the evemodel well cars or the containers? How many of yall have them and are they worth buying? I am aware that they wont be anywhere near kato, walthers, a-line or exact rail. Can they be reasonably detailed and make a decent model?
Im getting away from passenger cars and gonna do some intermodal for a change.
Thanks for any help
