Chip,
This type of log loader is called the barnhart log loader. I remember reading somewhere that they were used for many years in the logging industry. I just don't remember the year(s) in which they were introduced, or just where it was that I read that info. I don't think it would be out of place in 1895. IHC has one of these on special for $6.98 at this time. Here's the link:

But by the angle of the inverted span, which is in conjunction with the last moon rising I woul say the latter part of 1928....... Am I right? am I, am I, am I ?
