I'll try again.
I get your desire to make the yard more interesting, but I am not sure what you could do to make that so. What would be the reason to send passenger car consists through a hidden loop?

I am familiar with how trains entered and departed Dearborn Station and LaSalle Street Station. But, I am not certain about entry and departure into Union Station. Do Metra and Amtrak trains pull into the station head first? If so, are passenger car consists pulled back to the yard at 12th Street? Then what? Are seats reversible so that the consist is pushed back into the station and motive power then pulls the train out of the station?
I am interested in your issues, but more information would help.
The Metra trains can leave the yard and enter hidden staging.
Would a Amtrak lead help that goes to a hidden loop?
In my opinion it will be difficult because your trains basically do the same thing. They run to Union Station inbound. Lay over in the yard. Go back to Union Station and disperse. If you added an off railroad lead to the station it would add operation and timetable requirements to the trains
My layout is almost done, but am looking on ideas how to make my Metra yard more interesting.
Its push pull operations like the real thing, 2 Metra engines, 6 Metra passenger cars, and one Amtrak engine and several cars.
Any suggestions?
