That's a fascinating design. As usual, the video is a delight to watch.
I would have buffed the wheels and then cleaned the chassis before applying lube to the axles, and definitely before greasing. You may have set up self-lapping of the gears...
I'd at least think about getting nutdrivers in the appropriate sizes, or at least use soft-jaw (e.g. brass-faced) pliers if you have to use pliers. Those little nuts round off and crush easily...
Very interesting find, Darth. I knew they were using coreless motors in cameras back in the 60s, I'd have never imagined one in a loco like this. I might find myself keeping an eye open for one, I like oddities that run well. Thanks for sharing. Dan
Hi Darth,
Interesting loco and tuneup video. Thanks.
Dave
I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
I picked this one up recently for what I think was a good price. It's one of Jouef's early HO scale models from the 60's!
I've seen others comment on Jouef being a somewhat poor quality brand (they did use smaller motors and cheaper plastic gears for a long time), but this one is honestly really impressive! I wouldn't be surprised if it runs completely trouble free for a lifetime!
