Steven Otte The Ultimate Guide is not an annual. It's a series of special issues that's published when there is enough material, consumer interest, advertiser interest (the biggie), and staff time to make producing it worthwhile. We didn't have one last year, we'll have one this year, next year who knows?

Thank you Steven. That's more or less what I thought. I figured it was something related to Covid. Or not!!!

Of course in theory (meaning, by definition) there can be only one ultimate guide, and nothing remains to be said. If they thought there might be just one more it could be called the penultimte guide, and given how often the word "penultimate" is misused or misunderstood it should sell just as well.
But more correctly it should be known as the pre-penultimate guide. I think that title would generate intense advertiser interest. Or confusion.

I just preordered Model Railroading: The Ultimate Guide 2022 and looked for the 2021 issue to fill out my collection. I was surprised to NOT find it anywhere. Did MR not publish a 2021 issue? I'm stymied to say the least. I need it for my collection. Am I not looking in the right place?
Edit: Never mind. I found out that they didn't publish a 2021 issue. Probably related to COVID. Oh well, now my collection will be complete, albeit with a glaring one year hole...
