DC ho locomotive directional LED wiring
Posted by BlaxlandAlex on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 9:50 PM

Hello, I built up an MDC shay kit and decided to add led lighting. Everything has worked out fine. I added the appropriate resistors, and the lights work and only go on in their respective directions, but here is where my problem lies.

When in forwards, the front headlight is fine, but the rear light flickers. Vice versa when going in reverse.

I have seen many YouTube videos and diagrams but cannot seem to get a simple diagram or straight answer on how to fix this issue. Bear with me. Any help is appreciated!

I’m assuming you didn’t use a diode in series with the LED.  I normally use a 1N914 in series to prevent flickering but any diode should work.

Thank you so much. I did not use any diodes. I'll try it.
