NHTX

Are you familiar with www.greatdecals.com ?  Look under decal suppliers.  They are pretty much a "who's who" of the mdel railroad decal world.  I have often had to use as many as five sets from different manufacturers on a single car and, don't be afraid to investigate other scales as well.

No I hadn't. It has been added to my collection of bookmarks. I did a quick check and wasn't able to find any "Q" sets that would work. Many of my cars have decals from different companies. As I also protolance, I have quite a few cars with custom decals as well as stock ones.

Looking at the car in the picture, the lettering is a patchwork, applied over the years and getting all of those variations in one set is highly unlikely.  Old beet cars, be they CB&Q, SP or, other, usually received only the maintenance to keep the rolling during the harvest.

I kinda figured that. As already stated, two or three sets wouldn't be unusal for some of my cars. (A drop end gondola I relettered for the NP took pieces from 5 diffrent sheets IMS.) The set with the logos has the right font and such for the reporting marks as well. I would have to get some decal striping as it doesn't have that. The main place I'm having the problem is trying to match the font and such for the dimensional data. If worse comes I have some BN boxcar data sets that I can pull from. (I've used them for quite a few of my cars 20+ at least.)

What I'm looking for is set(s) to do these cars (x4): http://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=cbq194954&o=cbq. I have a set that would give me the needed logos. However, it is for covered hoppers and doesn't have all the needed dimenaional data. Most "Q" decals are roman fonts and the cars are gothic fonts that were in use at the time. The cars will be used in sugar beet service.

Maybe if you told us what flavor decal you are searching for someone would be able to suggest a source (or not).

Unfortunately, the company didn't have the decals that I needed. So back to the drawing board so to speak.

An email was send on Tuesday afternoon. The decals I'm looking for are ones that I'm told are kept onhand and are not custom to me.

He says to e-mail him at the address Bear gave before you actually place an order.

When you do so, I'd raise the possibility that he sign up for a service like Venmo or CashApp, that would allow him to arrange secure payment for the transaction nearly immediately without the rigmarole of printing or writing out an order form, getting and filling out a paper check, etc. and then enduring the wait and uncertainty for the mail to get there and for the check to clear.

As any custom details are easily addressed in an e-mail exchange with images or drawings/sketches as attachments (shot with a cell phone if not attached as JPEGs), I see no real need for a more involved 'web presence'.

Online Presence for a Decal Company?
Posted by FRRYKid on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 3:03 AM

Got yet another one for my Forum friends. Does anybody know if Hamsmith Decals out of Illinois has an online presence? I was directed to them for decals for a hopper car project that I am working on. All I have for the company is a smail address. While I am not opposed to actually writing a hard copy letter, I find that communicating by electronic means is a lot quicker and easier. (Especially when the PC doesn't want to let a word processor work and printing off my tablet is an adventure in itself.)

As usual, any assistance that can be provided would be most welcomed.
