Life-Like's new sound equipped GP-9s also have these features. They have
a QSI system and the manual describes it as QARC technology, with a special
controller available for the functions. The leaps and bounds in model railroad
technology is really impressive.

QSI added some additional DC controllable features to their newer sound systems, which so far is in the models you listed. Ones introduced before that time (so far there have not been second runs of the earlier models witht he new boards in them) so not have those features. So short of the bell and whistle, most of those buttons would not work with your earlier BLI locos.

The Atlas Quantum Engineer (http://www.atlasrr.com/DCC/quantumengineer.htm) looks pretty interesting for this non-DCC operator.

On the Atlas page, it notes that it will only work with “the more recent locomotive releases from Broadway Limited Imports (BLI) can also be operated; this includes the PRR K-4, EMD E-series passenger units, EMD SD40-2, C&O T-1, EMD switchers, etc. BLI locomotive releases previous to these, as well as the Lionel Challenger and Turbine will not operate with the Quantum Engineer.”

The $10K question is the "more recent" and “etc” part. I have a Broadway Limited CB&Q Mike and the Santa Fe 3751 … does the Quantum Engineer operate with these engines?

I tried looking on the Atlas Forum, but searching through the 177 pages of HO scale posts alone is mind numbing!

Many thanks in advance for your help,

Burlington John
