Thanks for the suggestion, Lion.  IIRC, some glitches between Firefox and the MR forum started with FF 76.0, or there abouts.  After that I couldn't post to my PMs.  (I have to use Edge as a workaround now.)  I think the avatar issue was sometime after that but I'm not sure.

You need an older browser. Browsers have left behind certain older protocols which many sites still use. This one Among them. Shift your primary browswe to Edge, and then get an older version of Firefox and be sure to shut off the updates. You should be able to get histerical copies from firefox, if not I have copies in my archive. I can zip up one and email it to you.   lion@broadwaylion.com

I checkedd the mozilla websites and so far this is the best that I could find:

And HERE you can download older versions of Firefox!

Something around 53.0 should work for you.

Yea, even when the avatar feature was sorta working (as described in my earlier post), using Edge made no difference in the ability to alter my present generic avatar.  I also tried using Chrome and it yielded the same results. Sad

I am using Firefox ver. 95.0 (64-bit) but I did try the current version of MS Edge. Same problem. Seems like the only thing Kalmbach is updating is their prices.

Try it from a different browser.  No version of Firefox above 61.0 works with a number of features of the site code, including typing text in PMs.

I used the last version of Opera compatible with Apple OS X 10.6.8 and successfully set an avatar around April of this year.

Yea, avatars have been glitching for me too. Certain peoples avatars have disappeared. I don't get it because I was able to see them before but not anymore.

Tom,

Thanks for the reply and info. That confirms the problem is "there", not "here". I've lived without an avitar for a long time so I guess I'll survive a while longer.

Hi Charlie,

The current forum software is showing its age and has been for a few years now.  About 2 years ago I lost the ability to edit/alter my avatar.  For a while I could actually access the dialogue box and "pretend" to make the change.  However, the change never stuck.  Now I'm seeing the exact same blank box with the red circled X that you are.

I'm sorry to say that there isn't anything that can be done to fix these nagging and ever-increasing issues until Kalmbach upgrades the problematic software platform and no one seems to know if and when that will ever take place.  Sorry I can't give you a better answer than that.

How to add my avatar?

How do I add an avatar to my profile? Clicking on "Change avatar" from the manage or edit profile link yields only an empty box with a small red circled X in the upper right corner. No choose avatar or browse dialog box. Running Firefox on Win 10.
